On my continuous quest to find a decent breakfast sandwich in SF I stumbled upon this gem of a place in the Mission. Newkirks is the first good breakfast sandwich that I’ve found since moving to the city in 2020.

It’s a no frills sausage, egg, and cheese on a kaiser roll. Slightly runny fried egg, American cheese, sausage patty and butter. You don’t need anything else. Served in 3 minutes. Had a delicious chocolate chip cookie also, and an ice cold can of coke. Just so satisfying.

Bonus, they have pinball, and even though there was a mechanical malfunction the man behind the counter (owner?) came out to fix it on the spot.

The price seems crazy at $11.50 for the sandwich, but I’d gladly pay it again and again.

Can’t wait to come back and try some of the lunch items as well!

Thanks Newkirks!!!

Stopped by to check out their sandwiches on my ongoing journey to visit all popular SF sandwich shops. This place is right across the street from SF general hospital and a quick bike ride from my gym. I was hungry so I ordered two different sandwich options and they were so good I left without any leftovers to take home. Yummy bacon egg and cheese for sandwich #1 and a cheesesteak for sandwich #2. Both were delicious and I’ll definitely be back again to try out more of their menu, and to play some pinball

I grew up around NY, grew up eating breakfast sandwiches. This place totally nails it, I keep coming back every week.

Everything on the menu is amazing. The horse on the roof, pastrami egg and cheese and hash brown egg and cheese are all phenomena. It’s always flavorful and juicy.

The vibe is great on the inside. Be sure to grab some sauces!

Ohh well, what can I say? i love this place. Their HEC and BEC are fantastic. I could eat them every single day.
Staff is always really nice.
The place is cute and has some old pinballs that we like to play with while waiting for our orders.
Sometimes we get our sandwiches and we go to Starr king and eat then while admiring the view of the city.

Newkirk’s is hands down the best sandwich spot in the city. I go here at least once a week and it never disappoints. I wear my newkirks shirt proudly and tell everyone to go there when they ask me what it is. I LOVE the hash brown sandwich and the cheesesteak. I also recently had the chicken schug and that was incredible. But everything is amazing, definitely try a breakfast sandwich first. The house made hot sauces are awesome as well.

Came here because TikTok. And may I say that for what we ate that morning, which was the hash brown sandwich, I would be going back. The sandwich was warm, tasty, and had a nice kick to it from the cherry peppers. Their orange hot sauce added another layer of flavor profile. They also serve Ritual coffee and have some fresh juices at hand. Service was friendly and quick and there’s plenty of open tables to enjoy their fantastic sandwiches.

I grew up on the East Coast and it is not possible to find the same breakfast sandwich vibe in SF- until now! Newkirk’s is the answer! The Hashbrown sandwich is phenomenal, ratio of cheese, crispy bacon just right eggs and cherry peppers on the perfect roll. Homemade hot sauce and the best vibes. Go now.

This kaiser roll and sandwich shop is an absolute gem! The rolls are perfectly baked—crispy on the outside, soft and airy inside. Every sandwich feels handcrafted with care and quality ingredients. But the real standout is their fermented hot sauce—it adds a unique tangy heat that elevates every bite. You can taste the depth of flavor from the fermentation process, making it unlike anything you’ll find elsewhere. Whether you’re grabbing lunch or just craving a seriously good sandwich, this spot delivers on flavor, freshness, and creativity every single time.

I saw Newkirk’s on one of Adonis’s videos on Instagram and decided I wanted to try it the next time I was in the city. I got the Horse on the Roof, my wife got the Hashbrown Sandwich, and my son got the SEC(not pictured because he was hungry and scarfed it down haha)
The woman working behind the counter was super friendly and reminded me of things I normally would’ve forgotten on a to-go order like napkins and sauces lol
The habanero-carrot sauce was good but the green sauce (tomatillo-jalepeno I think?) was a showstopper. It had such good flavor even if it was a little less spicy than the orange sauce.
Definitely stopping by again when I’m in the area.
