Solid Classic Cantonese restaurant with fresh seafood. Really traditional but did not get soup as appetizer or dessert soup or fruit at end of dinner like in NYC Chinatown. I would definitely come back and try again.

South Garden is a Chinese restaurant located right outside the heart of Quincy Center serving traditional South Chinese and Cantonese dishes for lunch and dinner.
The staff are friendly, definitely helps to know Cantonese but they can communicate well in English as well.
As for the food, its alright. The quality is pretty much the same as other restaurants, though the beef satay chow fun wasn’t as good as other places i’ve tried. Very good spot to get traditional Cantonese dishes like fried squid or fried porkchops for a reasonable price and reasonable quality.

Look at that lobster mountain! 5 lbs of lobster just $100? Someone recommended this on red notes, so I came to give it a try! And it really amazed me. I can tasted the ‘wok hay’! This restaurant tastes better than lots of NYC chinese restaurants!

First, they threw the tablecloth in my mother’s face and not sorry for that. They even unintentionally pushed my mother (no need to make things up because they weren’t even aware of what they were doing). They served the food for other tables faster (which are more people than mine) even though we arrived first and ordered first ( They explained that we ordered late but they know the truth). When we asked for a check, they gave us the handwritten paper with the illegible Chinese writing. I’m not Chinese, and that’s how they treat customers. After all, their food save those rude people. This is the first also the last time that I come here. Their food are good, but not enough for me to come back.

I ordered stir-fried loofah, but the loofah skin was barely peeled and completely inedible.
I called the restaurant to complain, and they actually told me “our loofah is not peeled.”
Unacceptable response and zero accountability.

South Garden is a great spot for Chinese food! The garlic chicken was super tasty, and the lobster tower was incredible – so fresh and full of flavor. A little but way too crowded but they have plenty of parking. The staff was really nice, and the food came out fast. If you’re craving good Chinese food, definitely check out South Garden!

Traditional Cantonese dishes are good .
The Lobster Mountain was pretty good and it was the reason we went there. Kind of pricey. But I recommend to try it.

Great place that has its ups and downs. Pros food is usually very consistent in terms of quality and taste. I emphasize usually because there have been times where the flavor was not there at all. Cons seating is very cramped and as I mentioned, the rare inconsistencies that occur. Service is passable. When it’s a full house make sure to keep note of what was ordered, they will usually forget. All in all, fantastic food. Passable service. Plate portions have gotten significantly smaller.

We enjoyed South Garden a lot! It’s right next to a huge Chinese supermarket, so even though there was a queue (20 mins) when we arrived, we could walk around till a table was open. The lobster tower was really good — quality of the seafood itself is great, and the preparation was also well done. The asparagus and beef stir fry was also very good.
