I usually love a good Hibachi night, but our experience at Samurai Sushi & Hibachi was a masterclass in how to lose a customer’s trust. While the large fish tank in the lobby is a nice touch for the kids, it was the only “high point” of an otherwise disappointing evening.
The pacing here was non-existent. My daughter’s sushi arrived 45 minutes before the rest of our Hibachi. By the time our hot food actually hit the table, she had been finished for nearly 30 minutes. Worse still, despite the long wait, the salmon and the vegetables were significantly overcooked and arrived cold on the 3 remaining dishes. It’s a rare feat to overcook something and still serve it chilly, but they managed it.
Our waitress walked past our table multiple times while we sat with empty plates. We waited 30 minutes before we were offered boxes or the bill. For my fellow service members: be aware they do not offer a military discount.
The most egregious part was the bill. I ordered the Salmon/Shrimp Hibachi Combo, listed on the menu for $34. Instead, I was charged $34 for the salmon meal plus a staggering $17 upcharge for the shrimp. Even if it had been entered as a side (which the menu lists as $10), the math didn’t add up. We were both charged the wrong amounts, but after waiting so long for the server to return to the table, we simply ran out of time and had to leave.
Between the erratic kitchen timing, the cold/overcooked food, and the billing errors, I cannot recommend this spot. There are too many great Hibachi places in the area to settle for being ignored and overcharged.
The seafood soup was good, I would say it was like more of a vegetable soup than a seafood soup. Most of the bowl was taken up by broccoli but there were two scallops and 1 shrimp, two fishcakes a few flakes of fake crab. The broth was yummy and the seafood was yummy. I just wish there had been more.
The crab Rangoon was really tasty. I got the Iowa Roll sushi and it was delicious!
They weren’t very busy which was nice. It’s a nice space. I hope to try to habiachi next time now that I know i can!
We’ve been coming for over 5 years and the bill today (with less than what we usually order) was double the cost it was this time last year. Yes things are more expensive… but not that expensive. It cost $40 per person, even the kid meals.
