LOOOOOOVE this place!!! We have 100% always had excellent food here (we frequently do takeout but also eat in regularly). The restaurant is tiny but the vibe is awesome. The service is perfect and the music is always great. I have celiac disease and have never had a gluten reaction at Kai. I am grateful!!! Thanks for all of the delicious food and fun family memories!

Such a lovely place! I had a California Roll and a hot taro tea, and both were delicious. The atmosphere was beautiful and super cute, perfect for a nice and relaxing meal. The staff was very friendly and welcoming, which made the experience even better. I really enjoyed my time here and will definitely be coming back. Highly recommend!

Small and modest looking restaurant with fresh, flavorful and creative sushi. I had the sushi bagel to start – how fun- definitely worth trying though seems like a lot more rice than I like but needs it for the look! Agedashi tofu spot on with tasty sauce and hot and crispy out of the fryer. All the other rolls my friend and I had were delicious and the server was happy to substitute a few things for her. It BYOB but we decided to stick with hot tea – we got two different kinds they come served ins traditional Japanese pot which added to the authenticity. Definitely worth a visit if you are in the area but it only has seating for about 20 at tables and 5-6 at the sushi bar

Excellent little corner restaurant serving lunch specials averaging $10. Seating may be limited and the interior is minimalist chic. Service is friendly.
I had the chicken katsu curry that was accompanied by either soup or salad. Both were delicious. The chicken curry came in a large bowl with the curry on one side.
I will probably be back to try the sushi.

I spent a month in Japan in April-May 2025. In October, I came to Phila. for a conference and found this spot on Friday after conference. It immediately brought me back to contemporary authentic restaurants in Tokyo and Osaka. The food, the atmosphere, all on lock as exactly like what we ate in Japan. If you’re used to the kind of greasy rice and yum yum sauce hibachi you get in the suburbs, you will be surprised because THIS is *real* modern Japanese cuisine. Go around the corner to the liquor store and buy a few bottles of sake or shochu, then come here to delve into a genuine Japanese evening out!

I came into Philadelphia from NY for a weekend getaway although I was hesitant I tried Kai. I fell in love the service great the ambiance great and most important the food wonderful. After my first dine I came back the next day it was that good. The Volcano Sushi Roll is like heaven on earth along with the soft shell crabs. Those were my favorites but everything I had was great. Try it you will NOT be disappointed. Thank me later!

Suuuuuuusshhiiiiiii…. Ha ha. Loved this pace, the server was an awesome young guy and very attentive. The food is amazing. Although it is this small corner place, and I guess can accommodate may be 12 people at once, what makes it special is the food and attention to detail. The food is not super expensive. As a person who enjoys sushi to the core, I was surprised by the freshness of the food and how simple and great everything tasted. I was a little disappointed by the Ramen, which is not a regular menu item, would recommend all of you to try the dimsums(i know they are not called dimsums, )
