Stopped by White’s Ferry Grill & Store and was pleasantly surprised!
The food was really good, fresh, flavorful, and definitely better than what you’d expect for a small spot by the ferry. The service was friendly, and the atmosphere had that casual, welcoming vibe that makes you feel comfortable right away.
The little store is a nice bonus too, perfect for grabbing drinks, snacks, or small essentials.
We were sad to see that the ferry itself wasn’t operating. It’s such a unique part of local history, and we truly hope one day the landowners on the other side of the Potomac can come to an agreement to keep this piece of history alive.
Overall, a great local stop with good food and good people. Definitely worth checking out if you’re in the area.

Always a treat to make the long scenic drive and have a fat “Big Al” Burger over here. Beautiful views and always good service. Been visiting for years and couldn’t recommend it more. Cold beers! River crossing might open in the near future. Meaning that it will inevitably overcrowd the area. So visit and enjoy it as it is now!

Impressively delicious sandwiches etc. made with tasty Boar’s Head meats, friendly service, air conditioned indoor tables for hot days, and orders come to you quickly.
We got a juicy roast beef sandwich and a grilled cheese. Both were top-notch, and this place is a real oasis on the C&O trail, which is quite the food desert. You order at the register. Fries or chips are a la carte.
Minus one star because all drinks come in cans or bottles, yet in 2025 White’s Ferry Grill still lacks any recycle bins whatsoever. I suggested adding them to the owners via their website and Facebook page, but never heard back. As a result, the trash can outside may be full, and tons of recyclables go to the landfill. I carried my empty Gatorade bottle with me. I would love to take the ferry again, but meanwhile, this restaurant is a gem.

I ‘ve frequently ridden my bike 60 miles to get their burgers and sandwiches. Great food, inexpensive, friendly staff. No water fountain, but you can purchase drinks. Porter potties in the back. Ice cream and snacks available to purchase.

What a great little stop on the C&O canal towpath. I had the breakfast wrap which was hot and tasty. Sat outside on the patio, with the view of the ferry (although apparently it hasn’t been in use in 4 years) and watched a few guys fish. Top notch and friendly service! Pretty good selection of drinks and other items in the store as well.

Perfect for what it is, rural store and grill right off the C&O Canal and the White’s Ferry landing, which hopefully will run again some day. Ferry Burger was excellent! Even the lettuce and tomatoes on it were very fresh.

kinda the only game in town. For people biking the C & O. Subs are good. Service OK. No Frills. Expect to pat for water.

The staff was not just nice, they were charming. Happy to see bikers. Happy to be there. Mix of locals and bikers when we were there. Great breakfast sandwiches. Don’t forget to get a sub to go for lunch. So good. Bike parking outside and bathrooms outside. I’ll stop here every time I ride past.

Really great place for a bite after a long hike. Service folks were really nice. They filled up water bottles for free. Food was not amazing, but when you have only eaten camp food, a grilled chicken sandwich was delicious. Oh, and there was electricity available at each table. The service folks also let me stay past closing to avoid thunderstorm.
