First time trying this restaurant and we were so pleasantly surprised. The quality of food and service is not just exceptional for Mammoth but rivals the fine dining experience you would find at a Micheline star restaurant. You can tell how much passion the owner puts into the space and every dish. We enjoyed our dinner so much that the next day we returned just for desert. I could not recommend this place more. Order the crème brûle it is incredible!

The food we order is absolutely scrumptious! The atmosphere is lovely, not too crowded. Just remember to make a reservation beforehand, or else you won’t get a table.

Best dining experience we had on this trip. Hamachi appetizer plate has a lot of flavors. The mushroom crepe was also delicious. My daughter loved her salmon plate.

Highly recommended. The ambiance and attention to detail was very appealing. Our server, Laura, was superb. My partner and I split several options so we could try more items on the menu. The complexity and flavor of the options was impressive. The presentation artful. The wine selection was splendid. Chef Ian made a point to visit our table which was a beautiful and intimate touch. Well done! Thank you for a memorable and sophisticated dinner experience. I can’t wait to return.

THE BEST meal in Mammoth. We came here on Christmas Eve. Having been to many fine dining restaurants, we were still surprisingly amazed by Skadi. Food was phenomenal, vibe was immaculate, and service was impeccable. Very reasonably priced compared to similar restaurants in LA. The chef was super fun and down to earth, very obviously proud and passionate about his creations and was eager to share his knowledge with us. We sat at the chef’s counter with an open kitchen right in front of us and loved watching the kitchen staff prep every dish. This intimate fine dining restaurant super close to the Village serving Nordic cuisine is exactly what we need after a cold and exhausting day on the slopes! Would 100% recommend!

The chef seems nice and food was very good. Service and enthusiasm of employees is lacking. They did not bring one of the dishes we ordered and no one seemed all that concerned. We were celebrating a birthday and no one seemed to care. One person intended to return in five days and hostess did not really care to make a reservation. This is about the 5th time we have been here over the years and new locstion and staff are sad.

Please don’t get fooled by the hype of “we’re always booked” or “you need a reservation two weeks in advance.” This restaurant simply doesn’t live up to the reputation. The food and service were so poor that I genuinely don’t understand how they’re still in business. Do yourself a favor—there are plenty of great places to eat in Mammoth that actually care about quality and service.

From the moment we sat down, it was obvious the staff had no clue what they were doing. Most of them seemed like they were just there to collect a paycheck, with zero enthusiasm. Our server didn’t even know the menu—despite the fact that it hasn’t changed in over three years. He couldn’t explain any of the dishes.

We placed our order right away: the Venetian and deer heart for appetizers, duck and pork for the mains.

They dropped off a basket of bread and butter and then disappeared. It sat there untouched for over 30 minutes with no one checking in—not even to see if we wanted more wine, even though both of our glasses had been empty for half an hour.

Then the same server shows up and starts serving us soup. Soup we never ordered. When I told him, he just took it back to the counter, cleaned the bowl, and served it to another table—with zero apology. That was shocking.

Fifteen more minutes went by with still no wine service.

Finally, the appetizers arrived. The Venetian was extremely dry—a cracker from Vons with a bit of jam. No flavor. The deer heart was also dry, paired with cheap-tasting jams that might as well have come from the dollar store. Completely bland.

Another 30 minutes passed before the main courses showed up. The duck was overcooked, paired with sides that made no sense and didn’t complement the dish at all. The pork was flavorless and came with sides that were just as tasteless. The presentation of both dishes looked outdated and uninspired.

From start to finish, the entire experience was a disappointment. We were expecting something special and ended up with something barely passable. Honestly, if it wasn’t for the wine and the fact that we were already in a good mood, we would have walked out after the first 30 minutes of waiting.

I truly don’t understand how this place is booked out or how it doesn’t have far more negative reviews.

Total disappointment.

Nice fine dining experience in the forest. The menu is interesting with a focus on game meats.

I’m super happy that my husband booked this restaurant. It’s probably the best meal I’ve had in a long time. Every single dish is well designed and executed, I can tell chef put a lot of efforts and study behind. We ordered 3 appetizers which are deer heart, mushroom crepe and today’s special, which is like a gelatin mixed with duck, goose and pheasant, it’s like a Russian-style ham I had before. Deer heart is the most impressive dish, the 4 layers are perfectly designed together to balance all the flavors in one bite. Mushroom crepe is super umami with the mushroom paste, slices and sauces all together. Jarlsberg cheese is so well to be the layers for mushrooms. Duck breasts are perfectly cooked, I love the German sauerkraut and raspberry sauce to garnish with it. The Swiss – German style dumplings are perfect to be the side. The dessert – Skadi’s Chocolate Tastings, OMG, it’s such a star to end the meal. All the chocolate desserts on that plate need to be treated seriously, because every single bite is so flavorful. There are so many things going on once you put it in your mouth. I can write a whole article about the foods here. But what you can do is just to book a reservation and come to try it out by yourself.
