Good food and geared for the older generations. Decor was quaint Menu was huge and had so many types of food. American, Mexican, Italian, Fish, and lots of types of of sides and soups. Our waiter was very nice and there were lots of booths and tables. The back room was a bar with about 10 stools and a tv..all filled with older men watching the NFL game. My steak was a little more done than I would have liked so you may want to order it medium rare. I loke my meat pink. It was in would say medium well. I got French onion soup that was good. Had cocoa. And my dinner came with broccolini and I asked for squash instead of one if three types of potatoes. Pleasant people ans quiet. My mom also enjoyed her dinner of crab cakes on a salad.

Love this place. Have loved it since I was a kid and still love it as an adult. Fantastic food, great atmosphere, and extremely friendly staff. I come in once a week to get takeout for me and my grandparents and I always stay for a drink at the bar while I wait. Arnie is a super cool dude and makes a great cocktail. Cannot recommend this place enough. Fair prices for good food with a very diverse menu. You can take a big group here and there is something on the menu for everyone.
While everything on the menu is great, the one thing you must try is their Steak Picado. This is one of my favorite dishes from any restaurant. It is chopped up pieces of steak simmered in a Spanish tomato sauce with bell peppers and onions and it tastes magnificent. I go here once or twice a week and frequently tell myself I’ll order something else besides the steak Picado and everything I end up ordering the steak Picado.
My one suggestion is that they add a gluten free bread or bun option for their burgers and sandwiches, but otherwise this place is perfect

A friend told us to try Magpie’s Grill and I’m glad we went! We enjoyed our meal at Magpie’s Grill. The large selection of fried appetizers gave me eater’s block and I just couldn’t decide, so, thankfully they had a pick 3. The zucchini strips, large onion rings and mozzarella sticks were dipped in a light flaky batter and so delicious. The chicken wings only come with one type of sweet and spicy sauce which is really good but, I’m a fan favorite of spicy so, of course, I had to have some hot sauce on the side. The wings were really large sized which I don’t see too often. 🙂
My daughter had chili without cheese, which they add fresh cut onions and garlic bread was piping hot which she told me was very good and the best of all was that every single staff member was a delight, from the hostess to the cook. I know when we’re back in Glendale/La Cañada area we’ll stop by again. It was a great little place.

Really nicely cooked food here, with some interesting menu choices like schnitzel and bratwurst. The schnitzel is excellent, and the accompanying German potato salad is really good. I’ve also tried the ‘pollo pleaso’, which is a fantastic grilled chicken sandwich.
Staff is calm and professional. Overall a reliable take on a classic German -American diner. Full bar, also!
Edit: People mentioning prices. These are FAR better than neighboring joints. Hill Street Grill charges far far more, and anything on Honolulu Blvd is going to be 20% higher. For example, the fish and chips is $18 here, $24 at HillStreet. And it’s far better, to boot! 🙂

Update: tried the spinach artichoke dip. Fabulous!! Huge chunks of artichokes.
All of these years later, still great food!! Andy was a fabulous server. Love this place.
One of my favorite places to go eat. Wide variety of food. Love the servers Jennifer and David, they are fabulous. Back room for larger groups and a bar area if you want to watch a game and have a beer

I went here for the first time and it was a great overall experience from the quality of food, an impressive variety of breakfast options on menu, and good service. The price is fair and the dish when brought out looked appealing, too. I got an omelette with bacon & cheese that had loads of good bacon in it. What was even nice is the fruit. It wasn’t just your typical cantaloupe and honeydew either (as you see in picture provided below). I’ll be coming back for sure!

Magpie’s is one of my favorite neighborhood spots. The people are friendly, the menu is diverse, and I can always get a table right away. I also dig the retro vibe.
