This is the best Cuban food I have found in the DC area. The portions are great. This trip we got the ham croquettes and a Cuban sandwich to split. The food was flavorful and fresh. My wife commented on how fresh the bread was as well.

I’m leaving 5 stars, but it’s probably closer to 4 with how sticky the floor is. You have to peel your feet up as you walk. I’m not sure if it’s intentional to prevent slipping, because it’s seriously that sticky. I felt like a fly on sticky paper.

The Extras, that’s where you’ll have to wait.

SERVICE:
A bit slow. No one greets you when you arrive.

FOOD: 4
The food was very good. I didn’t have the experience other reviewers had regarding saltiness. My food, ROPA VIEJA, was almost spot on. Actually, in my case, a tad more of salt would have made the flavors pop more. GO FIGURE!

But if you have high blood pressure, then you will definitely see this as a positive and eat it often. Which I totally recommend!!!

PRICE:
By now, you know me. If it’s good food, I don’t care about the cost. This place falls in that category.

My dish, meat, black rice, and sweet plantains were $20.00. Portions was decent, not big as other reviewers have stated.

A fried cod fritter was around $10.00. These I LOVE Salty. Just great memories.

BATHROOMS

Need a bit of TLC. But for only 2 people working and running the whole show, the mens bathroom was decent.

PARKING AND LOCATION:

Tons of parking and a very nice area. Next to a Residence Inn.

SUMMARY:

The food was a 4. Some minor details. Where most points lost was in service. With very few people in the restaurant, the people working seemed a bit stressed, in my opinion. And the greeting part when you arrive is a must in any business.

My recommendation, offer a family deal. I totally understand how high prices have affected us after COVID, but I guarantee that if you offer a family dinning experience with a price for children, you will get more business and will be able to hire one more person to help out the already (again, my opinion) wonderful, but stressed-out employees.

All in All, I enjoyed the experience and I will definitely go back!

I wish I hadn’t waited this long to eat here!!! Everything was AMAZING! The mofongo was garlicky and soft, the yuca frita was crispy and well seasoned on the outside and creamy in the middle, the platanos maduros were sweet and sticky, the empanadas were so flavorful! My whole family loved every bite!

Stopped by on a whim. I asked what was recommended and the Cubasi Famous Roast Pork (side choices: rice & beans and sweet plantains) absolutely did not disappoint. The meat was tender and plentiful, the pork skin was juicy and delicous (with a slight crisp to it), the rice & beans side was hot and tasty, and the sweet plantains were cooked wonderfully. Tasted together in one bite, the combo of flavors left me utterly satiated.

That said, I could not finish the dish. There is a lot of pork left and much of it sits in grease and fat. It tastes great, but it’s heavy. Also, the cubano sandwich (also pictured) was a bit of a disappointment, to be honest. The sandwich meat came out really dry and overpowered every other layer by sheer quantity. There was just a bit too much shredded pork and too little everything else. I was sad to be let down by one of my favorite types of sandwiches.

The dining area of the restaurant is nice, with some Cuban memorabilia decorating the walls and such. Staff wore masks. The bathroom, I don’t think, was cleaned recently (only the men’s room was available, and the area around the toilet floor had quite a bit of spatter I tried to avoid standing in).

Lastly, at $18 for the pork dish and $15 for the sandwich, I’d say they were a tad bit on the pricier end of average. The Cubasi Pork dish was great, overall, but heavy. The sandwich was a bit of a letdown, compared to other Cuban restaurants I’ve tried in the DMV area.

Overall, the food was tasty and I would recommend the Cubasi Famous Roast Pork dish, and I’m glad I tried the restaurant. I would like to try again when they fully reopen, but I don’t see myself becoming a regular.

Considering the last time I eat authentic Cuban food was in Miami FL, I really wanted to try Cubasi Bistro.
Lechon or otherwise known as Roast Pork Cuban Sandwiches is one of my favorites. Tostones among other things were definitely on my list
of items to try Cubasi. So here it goes.

The main dish portions will easily be sufficient for two people to enjoy a good Cuban dish.
The roast pork was very tender but lacked flavor, I expected more considering the Cuban Island is known
for its flavorful dishes. The Mofongo dish was nicely decorated and came with some crispy tostones (Flatten Green Plantains)
which were very delicious, I’d say my favorite.

The sweet plantain was done just right and did not disappoint. It was hard not to eat each one in just one bite. Yummy!
The Cuban Sandwich lacked flavor. The roasted pork was a bit dry but made up in the amount provided
One Cuban will easily feed two people. You’ll want to dip in the vinegar sauce provided with the meal
and don’t forget to order a nice drink while you eat the Cuban, you’ll need it to swallow with ease.

The overall sitting and dining area were pleasantly decorated with Cuban Memorabilia.
Finally, the cost.
The Cuban Sandwich is around $15
Palomilla Steak with Onions $22
Puerto Rican Mofongo Bowls $19
Extra Tostones $9

So much food, couldn’t eat it all.
Overall I would recommend this restaurant and will return. Let me know what you think when you visit them.

My wife and I both had their signature sandwich, the Cubasi, best Cuban we’ve had, maybe except in Miami. The bread was toasted a bit hard for me, but perfect for her. More ham and pork than expected, with just the right amount of pickle and mustard.

We also inquired about their whole roasted pigs, which sound like a huge bargain for a party.

I ordered the steak sandwich which was meh… It cost $15 and the only good part of the sandwich was the bread. The steak didn’t have much flavor. My Mom got the Cuban and the meat on hers was very dry. There were parts of pork that were very hard and dried out. I wanted to like the place but it took 25 minutes to make a sandwich which rivals Subway with better bread. I know the restaurant is still new but so far there’s nothing to rave about. I might try something else and write another review. If people have my same experience, I can’t see this place lasting long.

I hate leaving negative reviews but maybe if the owner reads them they can make some changes. Would be helpful to have pictures of each dish on the menu too. Being unfamiliar with Cuban food I was a little lost. I would love to know what the best dish is to give them another shot.

Oh man, I found a Cuban spot in Ashburn, Virginia. Ya tu sabe. Camagüey in the house. So glad to try this place. I had chicken empanadas and a genuine Cuban Media Noche (Midnight Sandwich). Empanadas were amazing and the Media Noche was so big and packed with pork, I only ate half. Very well made with fresh ingredients. Good customer service, great ambiance, great location and authentic Cuban food at a moderate price. Good for the whole family. I strongly suggest.
