Stopped in for breakfast, first time there. Small place but very nice! The food was very good. Best pumpkin pancakes I’ve had, they like melted in my mouth and the toast was perfectly buttered and home fries crispy. The two waitresses in there were friendly. Will be going back to try lunch!

I had a lovely experience at this restaurant on my first visit a few weeks ago, thanks to the warmth of the owner’s mother and a friendly kitchen staff member who even treated us to a free pancake. However, our return visit on January 31, 2026, before 10 AM was a stark contrast.

The service was disappointing. Five young women working the floor seemed more interested in socializing than attending to customers. Our server, Mackenna, rushed to collect our drink orders before we were even seated and took almost 20 minutes to return for our food order. During our meal, no one checked on us.

Furthermore, a sign stating their non-support for ICE was prominently displayed. We overheard the owner’s mother making inappropriate jokes about it, which felt unprofessional and alienating. This political commentary made us uncomfortable during our meal. [Clearly, it was not the ice in people’s drinks; which we observed from others as well.]

Hygiene was a serious concern as well. I observed staff dropping dirty dishes near the food prep area, and one kitchen worker scrolled on her phone while wearing gloves, without changing them afterward.

To top it off, we waited over an hour for our check, and when I approached the counter, I was met with an attitude from a staff member.

Overall, this experience was unacceptable. We will not be returning or recommending this restaurant to others. Disappointing and uncomfortable from start to finish.

[Looking for awesome pancakes? Try Carver’s in Denville or Roxbury Diner.] We’ll be keeping our business at other local, family-owned and operated spots like Carver’s and Bryans Luncheonette in Succasunna.

We wanted to like this place, but I’m giving it 2 stars only because the food was actually good tasting and the folks working in the kitchen seemed to be professionals who knew what they were doing. Which makes it even sadder that the front of the house – specifically the staff working behind the bar – were an absolute dumpster fire! In terms of service, we waited several minutes at the bar before anyone greeted us. They asked what we wanted to drink before giving us menus, then seemed annoyed when we asked what they had. They often seemed more concerned with talking to each other about their personal lives than they were with checking in with customers, taking orders, asking if we needed anything, etc. Worse yet, basic cleanliness seemed to be lacking. Some of them didn’t have their long hair even pulled back, as they served food and drinks. None of them wore aprons over their clothes. None of them wore gloves, and for the roughly 45 minutes we were there, I didn’t see a single one of them wash their hands – not even after taking out the garbage, or between washing dishes and grabbing a fresh plate of food to bring to a customer! It seems their standard practice is to pile dirty dishes not in a bin under the counter, but right on the counter top in front of a small fridge used to store food, right next to where they prepare customers coffee and other drinks. While we were there, this pile started to build up and was cleared multiple times, but the counter underneath that was soiled with various liquids was only wiped off once right before we left. Doubt we’ll be going back.

Still one of the best spots around—great food with a small-town feel. The subtle updates keep the charm alive without losing what made this place so special. I used to ride my bike to Bill’s in the early ’90s, and it’s incredible how familiar it still feels. The staff were warm and welcoming. Can’t wait to bring my kids and start making new memories here.

Bill’s Luncheonette is fantastic. They have great options for breakfast/brunch/and lunch. They are only open Wednesday – Sunday but offer a variety of menu options and have specials as well.

We’ve gone twice now and both times we’ve been pleased with what we’ve had. The avocado toast had delicious pickled onions, the waffle with berries came out piping hot and fluffy, and both Godfather egg wrap/sandwiches packed a ton of flavor.

You can tell that everything is made to order, fresh and comes out as it’s made. The service is great as well and they’re pretty quick to get you your food.

On busier days, they do have an online queue that I believe you can call in and place yourself on which is super helpful.

The only 2 things to be wary of are the steps to get up to Bill’s are extremely steep so be careful and that the seats in the booth move if you’re back-to-back with another booth (if there’s kids beware of some movement).

Overall, Bill’s is a wonderful breakfast and lunch place and we’d highly recommend going!

Best of the best—Can’t go wrong with the classics here like egg platters, pancakes, and burgers & fries! Everything is hot on arrival and freshly made, and the spot itself is charming and truly takes you back in time. Don’t skip out on Bill’s!

This place has the worst service I have received in decades. The front of the house was being run by 4 young women who were more concerned with chatting than serving customers. I had to ask for a menu, silverware, coffee and my check. The worst part is the food was good. The people cooking know what they were doing and this could easily be a 4 star review if they get the right waitresses. A shame I won’t be going back as it’s right in my way to work

Figured I’d try someplace new after hearing so much about Bills. Arrived at 12:50pm after checking Google / Facebook etc which all says last seating is 30 minutes before closing; I was told sorry not taking any more customers. I can understand if I came in 10 minutes before close, but 40 minutes before closing and you won’t seat me? I don’t have this problem anywhere else. Not coming back to try after that experience, I’ll just stick to Bryan’s Luncheonette in Succasunna.

Quality ingredients, great food and warm service. Can’t ask for much more from a small family restaurant competing against corporate dining. Love this town treasure of a business and definitely recommend it!

Love the small town atmosphere! Very cute and quaint. The staff seemed happy so that’s always a good indicator of a nice place! I loved my avo blt, substituted chips for fries no problem. A bit of a wait at 11am, but it was understandable since seating is so limited. Definitely worth the wait!
