Food was amazing. Large New York with onions, mushrooms, and Blue Cheese. Best steak I have had in a very long time. My daughter had the barbecue chicken with mash potatoes, The chicken and steak were prepared over an open flame grill in the middle of the restaurant. Very cool atmosphere. Our server was Bobby, she was amazing to say the least and very friendly.

Btw. My account was hacked so I am writing this now. Visited Dec.20th..see receipt.
Great casual place in Penn Valley( off of highway 20). This place has been around 60+ years and is a local favorite. They have a full bar that is separate from the restaurant and is always busy. They open for dinner at 530 pm(make reservations!)
The food and service is awesome! I split a massive New Yorker that comes with one trip salad bar and fluffy baked potato AND garlic bread for 30 bucks! The food is cooked on an open fire where you can watch everything being cooked. The steak was juicy and definitely rivals any steak I have had at more expensive restaurants!
The wait staff is super friendly and work really hard. SPECIAL thanks to Leslie with her outstanding service and great attitude! Janelle and Tammy B were all working hard with a smile – from server to cook to bartender these 3 women were rocking it!
This is a very casual place with the customers also being friendly and genuinely having a good time! My experience was top notch and I will be back soon…oh and it smells yummy in the restaurant!
Good job Tack Room employees!

Best pork chops and steaks ever. Never disappointed. Reservation recommended. We usually ordered curly fries while waiting. Meals served with bread and choice of two kinds of soup or salad from self-served salad bar.

Went on Valentines Day. They were very busy but got through the tables reasonably fast. Love the wait staff here and that you can watch as they grill! Definitely be back and would recommend to anyone looking for a steakhouse.

We had a reservation and Bobby had our table set with water and silverware. It really makes you feel welcome! The food was amazing! Cooked on an open grill that is visible from the delicious and fresh salad bar! The baked potato was huge , fluffy, and served with whipped butter and sour cream, the table bread is garlic bread toasted on the grill, and you will eat too much. This is the type of meal that you get dessert with because you feel like you’re on vacation. Go! And if it’s a Tuesday or a Wednesday, you’ll get Bobby too!

The 3 ladies working here were super sweet and incredibly helpful — they made us feel so welcome from the moment we arrived. I had steak and prawns with my family, and everything was perfect. It’s a charming restaurant in the middle of nowhere, but it’s absolutely worth the stop. I travel often between the USA and Europe, and I can honestly say the service here was among the best I’ve experienced. Highly recommend!

Legit is legit and this place is that. The barkeep on the Saturday morning I arrived was super spot on, attentive, and anticipated mine and many of the guests every need. This was the Champions League Finals day and Chelsea won — nobody at the Tack knew or cared but I felt totally welcome. And their double burger was hot, hearty and paired with tasty spiced curly fries. And they have a shuffle board, woah nelly.

We love this local spot in Penn Valley! You feel like you’re having dinner at a friend’s house. The decor is comfortable, the service friendly, and the food delicious. I usually get a New York steak and baked potato. My husband is more adventurous and tries different things every time – pork chops, calamari & steak, and lobster & steak. The food is always consistent and good!

Where to start… No matter which door you come in you have to weave through the tables to get to the cashier hostess to be seated. The grill is also in the middle of the dining room. The ‘chef’ is the one who greeted us and asked if we had reservations, we did. She pointed in the direction of our table and said “we have you seated over there”. We walked over to 3 empty tables and decided it must be the one with the paper menus on it. We were brought grilled bread right away by the chef and it was very good. Quite a long wait for our waitress but she was busy and all by herself. We ordered drinks and an a la carte entre as an appetizer. Which were also brought by the chef, 5 very large prawns in a plastic basket lined with paper. No small plates so we had to cut off bites while in the basket, awkward.
The waitress finally came to take our meal order. We each ordered soup (the other choice was a trip to the salad bar. A 3ft tiny cramped bar where diners lined up amongst the tables. Again awkward.) As an entree we ordered the new york steak and calamari. Sorry, out of calamari. So then we ordered the ribeye, rare. She noted rare was red with a cool center so we switched to med rare, red with a warm center. Soup was served and Very good. When the steaks came they were med to med well. Not what we ordered but the flavor was ok. Didn’t see the waitress for quite some time. When she came we said no dessert just the bill. Waited & waited. Finally, I got up and got our own to go container off the counter. Waitress was preparing several bills behind the register so I said I can just take care of that now. I paid, we left, full but disappointed.
