This is a gem of a place! This is the best quaint place to score a fantastic meal in downtown Harpers Ferry by far. The whole place consists of an intimate dining room of 7 two-tops inside and a few tables outside, as well as a bar with 4 seats, and a small bench area (seats two) in the bar. This place was so intimate that the table next to us and across the way from us all struck up a conversation (about history).
I got a beer and my SO got a Pinot Grigio. They ran out of several beers on tap and had a choice of two. Whatever, no big deal. I got the infamous mac and cheese and my SO got the burger and fries. The portion sizes were favorable. This meal was so savory and rich and delicious and was exactly what I wanted after a day full of activities. The wait staff was affable and endearing. The price point was a little high, but the total experience was worthwhile.
Five stars, will visit again if ever in town.

Where do I begin. It has all kinds of small town charm. Everyone is very friendly. There isn’t a ton of seating but it’s not needed in such a small town. The portion sizes are unbelievable. The price is a tad bit high but for the sizes and quality it is worth it. When I say big portion sizes I mean ordering a burger and it coming out the size of your head. The staff is as friendly as can be. Disregard anything you saw on Hell’s Kitchen. This is one of the best places to go in Harpers Ferry.

Terrible place to eat if you have any food allergies or sensitivities. Menu does not tell you how the meal is prepared. I ordered fish (trout) which came out breaded and I am gluten free. The menu did not say it was breaded. Then they replaced it with vegetable risotto. I asked what kind of sauce it was in and thy said “none”. It came out in soup like in a ton of sauce which made me sick to my stomach! Even my husband who eats anything and everything said the trout was awful! We will never be back there!

We went to Bistro 1840 for a ‘fancy’ birthday dinner. The place wasn’t really busy by any means, but there was a wait time. We were told 20 minutes, so we grabbed some beers in the waiting room next to the kitchen. Another couple sitting in the room had been waiting for an hour after being told 20 minutes (they ended up leaving). At the bar though….. beer was good.. we could see into the kitchen. The head chef was yelling the entire time. So rude to staff. You could tell the staff were getting fed up and frustrated. The reason for the 2 stars? The guy that was cutting fish on a cutting board dumped the leftovers/juice in the trash, then proceeded to cut mozzarella on the same cutting board! We decided to leave and eat elsewhere. I feel bad giving 2 stars. The staff were really nice, very cute place, I’m sure the food would’ve been good… I’ll be back to Harper’s Ferry and see if it’s changed any.

Server was great. Helpful and attentive. Food was a mess $7 French fries were just shreds – no actual fries – like the bits left over in the frier. Steak salad was a disaster. Steak was over seasoned and salty and the lettuce was drowned in dressing and the whole affaire was topped off with heaps and heaps of Gorgonzola. After a few bite couldn’t eat any more. The mac and cheese was topped with literal ritz crackers and way too much Parmesan. The fried pickles were really good!! Bummer overall. Wouldn’t go back and wouldn’t recommend to a friend.

This place is expensive and the food isn’t great. My uncle and I ordered the steak salad, we couldn’t even finish the salad because they overdid it with blue cheese. Three people in my party ordered the trout, and it was too sweet.

Salmon. GET THE SALMON!!!! I think I almost cried when it was gone…. my huband got a burger and it was the best burger he has ever had.
Seriously…. GET THE SALMON OR MISS OUT !! Your tongue will thank you. I wanted to hug the chef but was told it was weird.

Amazing new menu, and terrific preparation. The free range chicken caprese cannot be topped, but you have to try the strawberry shortcake sliders!

The entrees are no joke. You won’t need to order a side because they’re fairly large. The food is upscale, so it’s a little spendy.
