Pontillos History- 70 Years and Counting In 2017 Pontillo’s will celebrate 70 years in business. No small feat in a competitive market of powerful chains and local pizzerias. “In Batavia, in the year 1947, most people called to ask what pizza was! Except for Italian-Americans, pizza was considered a strange but delicious new tomato pie. Its popularity grew very rapidly and, needless to say, the rest is history,” said co-founder Tony Pontillo. A very successful history to be sure. Today, almost 70 years later, Pontillo’s has over 20 locations. ” We’re very definitely a hometown business,” said Dave Pontillo. “Most of our shops are still family owned and all of them are owned and operated by local residents. We’re very proud to be known

Ordered through Slice App. Large special with wings and an extra 5pc wings

As we can see received a medium and correct wings.

Called Pontillo’s looked up the order admitted their mistake and had sent an additional medium within 30 mins. (2 mediums > large)

Very apologetic.

Pizza and wings were great.

We like square slices so thats why we ordered the large but customer service was fantastic and food was delicious.

The chicken wings were rubbery, no crispiness or flavor. The pizza was also subpar; the dough tasted stale, and there was an overwhelming amount of sauce, I don’t know if it was the cheese or the sauce but it had an unusual taste that was quite off-putting. Ordered through a third party site. The food came fast and was the correct temperature just not good. Wouldn’t give refund for food. Won’t be ordering again

It’s an old pizzeria in Charlotte New York. Good quality old school pie. They also have chicken wings that are delicious as well.

Something has changed with the taste of their dough and sauce within that last 6 months or so.

This used to be my favorite pizza in Rochester for years, but now it lacks the flavor it used to have.

They used to sprinkle romano cheese in clumps all over the pizza and over the crust, for one, but now it’s non existent. I mentioned that specifically when I ordered and was told they would put extra on my pizza for me. My pizza arrived with the amount of romano cheese that would fill a hollow pea, only spread around the sauce between the crust and cheese. Zero sprinkled on the crust, zero on the cheese. Why say that if you don’t make sure to do it?

I also notice the sauce is missing key seasonings – specifically garlic and oregano.

Normally I HATE leaving negative reviews for locally owned joints, but unfortunately the pizza has been consistently tasteless for the past few months, doesn’t have the flavor it used to, and I’d hope the manager/owner goes back to the recipe we Pontillos has always had a reputation for.

Advice to Pontillos: I don’t know if rising cost of inventory is the reason, but in my opinion, the worst choice a good restaurant can do is change their ingredients and/or dishes to lower quality to try to make up for rising costs of inventory. You are better off charging a few bucks more for the same great food you gota reputation for.
People are more willing to pay a little extra for good food they know and love, than pay a few dollars less for losing the flavor that made your food amazing in the first place.

Unfortunately until this happens, I am pushed to seek out a new favorite pizza joint.

Didn’t care for the pizza at all. Both crust and sauce. The wings were really good. Extra large and flavorful. Just could have been cooked a little more. Would definitely order wings again and specify well done

You can never go wrong with Pontillos, it’s always a solid choice. My only suggestion for improvement is a little more consistency on the menu from store to store. I’ve had times where I’ve called one location and accidentally looked at the menu for another, which confused the staff. Otherwise, it’s a great pizza place.

The most horrifying wings I’ve ever had! They were rubbery as hell, raw and the taste/smell of garlic was over powering.
I asked for half Cajun ( I assume dry rub) and other half sweet and sour. Not sure what was happening upon opening the container. Wings were mushy and the brown sauce on top was impossible to identify. Needless to say, we washed the wings off and cooked them longer in the deep fryer… they were still super rubbery. 5 out of the 15 were eaten and the rest went to the trash.
Won’t be ordering Wings from here again. Stick with the pizza as it seems to be their speciality.
