This South Indian restaurant offered a truly satisfying experience. The quality of food, presentation, and hospitality were commendable. The dosa was exceptionally crisp, and the chutneys added a perfect balance of spice and flavor. A great place to enjoy authentic South Indian meals with friends or family.

If you’re a fan of South Indian food, Sri Balaji Caffe is a must-visit in the Charlotte area! They offer a vast variety of dosas that cater to every craving.

We tried the Mini Tiffin, which came with a perfectly crisp masala dosa, soft idly, crispy vada, and a flaky poori, served with flavorful chutneys and sambar on the side. We also ordered the Mr. and Mrs. Dosa combo, which lets you pick your choice of dosa and one uttapam — both were absolutely delicious!

Everything was fresh, well-made, and packed with authentic South Indian flavors. The portion sizes were satisfying and the prices are quite reasonable for the quality.

Highly recommend this place if you’re looking for authentic, tasty, and budget-friendly South Indian food in Charlotte!

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Balaji Café — A Delicious Slice of South Indian Comfort food
Balaji Café has quickly become one of my favorite spots for authentic Indian flavors. The food feels homely, fresh, and thoughtfully prepared, making every visit a satisfying experience.
I ordered multiple dishes …
The dosas at Balaji Café are truly standout — crisp, golden, and served hot with flavorful chutneys and a comforting bowl of sambar. Each bite has that perfect balance of texture and taste that keeps you coming back.
Ending the meal with their laddus is a treat. They’re fresh, fragrant, and just sweet enough — the perfect.

A very cozy little place to have a perfect Vegetarian meal be it dinner or breakfast or lunch. The cafe houses several South Indian dishes that taste exactly the way it’s made back home in India – Tamil Nadu in particular. The service is pretty good as well.

THE FOOD:
We ordered several items for our dinner like Cheese Dosa, Mini Tiffin Combo, Chettinad Paneer Fried rice, Sambar Vara and Paneer Dosa. The Fried rice is what I had predominantly and that was over cooked and felt like Sambar rice (stickiness). Requested for Mild spice and it was ok I suppose. The taste/ flavor was okayish. The Sambar vada was good, nicely cooked and soaked. The Paneer dosa was once again requested to be mild spice and it came out bland. The sambar and chutney were excellent. Heard the Mini tiffin and Cheese dosa were good from my friends. Definitely worth the price for the quantity given.

AMBIENCE & SERVICE:
The place is very cramped but that’s ok as long as you don’t have a longer wait time or bad weather outside. The cafe is buzzing with so many different people talking and made me feel like I was in a typical hotel back in Chennai. The service is pretty quick and relatively shorter wait times for food to arrive but could be better. The staffs were nice and friendly. The only drawback being its small and finding tables could be difficult during peak hours.

BOTTOMLINE: A very good place to dine out if you are craving for some home made kind of food (tiffin) in particular. Wouldn’t recommend the Fried rice at all here but definitely in for Tiffin items. Price worth the service and food quality. Sits well in your tummy.

MY PICKS FOR YOU: Paneer Dosa (or Dosa varieties), Sambar Vada

I’ve visited Sri Balaji multiple times, and it’s easily one of my favorite spots in the Charlotte area for authentic South Indian vegetarian food. The dishes are consistently fresh, flavorful, and perfectly spiced, everything from the dosas to the indochinese food tastes homemade and full of care.
The service is also excellent. Raj always goes above and beyond to make sure guests feel welcome and taken care of. He’s attentive, friendly, and makes the dining experience even better every time.
Overall, this place never disappoints. Whether you’re vegetarian, vegan, or just love good food, Sri Balaji Café is absolutely worth a visit!

Stopped by after a long week of work and this place healed me. Fantastic authentic South Indian food, and the most hospitable service. I tried the idli soaked in sambar and the chettinad dosa, and I loved both. I could drink the sambar by the gallon. And the welcome drink was delicious too. I’ll be back.

Shri Balaji Cafe: A Hidden Gem of South Indian Flavor
Shri Balaji Cafe is a quintessential hole-in-the-wall that packs a powerful punch of authentic South Indian flavors. Don’t be fooled by its unassuming exterior; this place is a treasure trove for vegetarian food lovers.
From the moment you step in, you’re transported to the heart of India. The aroma of freshly ground coffee and sizzling dosas fills the air, creating an irresistible ambiance. The menu is a delightful exploration of South Indian cuisine, and every dish we tried was a standout.
The dosa was crispy on the outside, soft and fluffy on the inside, and generously filled with your choice of savory fillings. The idli was perfectly steamed, light and airy, a classic comfort food done right. The Singapore fried rice was a delightful fusion, combining Indian spices with Asian flavors for a unique taste experience. The onion uttapam was thick, flavorful, and served with an assortment of chutneys.
For dessert, the mysore pak was a sweet indulgence, with its rich, crumbly texture and addictive taste. And no South Indian meal is complete without filter coffee. Shri Balaji Cafe’s version was strong, aromatic, and the perfect ending to our culinary journey.
If you’re craving authentic South Indian food in a no-frills setting, Shri Balaji Cafe is an absolute must-visit. Be prepared to savor every bite of this culinary gem.
