We came here for a night of excellent live music and delicious food and we got it! It was raining so we were inside, in what used to be stables, which gave the dinner such a cool vibe. The service was quick, and the food was very tasty- my favorite was definitely the lamb shank. The outdoors looks amazing, with views of the lakes and mountains, I can’t wait to come back on a day with better weather

AVOID THIS PLACE! Counter-service “restaurant” charging a mandatory 18% gratuity fee regardless of party size (on top of already high prices) AND has the AUDACITY to tell you to put your own dishes away in a dirty dish bin like a busboy.

More details:
A clearly-posted sign tells guests to take dirty dishes to the bin AND the lady who brought us our food had the audacity to TELL us this too…and it’s not like they politely requested this because they were abnormally busy…there was only 1 other small party eating here at 3pm, so clearly the staff is just being lazy and the business is being greedy. Furthermore, it took at least 4-5 minutes for the order-taking-lady to acknowledge we were standing there. Even if you’re busy, you can at least look up at us and say “Hi! I’ll be right with you.” But no. She was uncourteous and slow, yet still felt comfortable charging us a mandatory 18% tip, AND THEN HAVING A TIP JAR ON THE BAR FOR MORE TIPS!! So ridiculous!!

My chicken sandwich tasted okay, but needed way more sauce and was overpriced. My husband’s lobster roll was pre-mixed, NOT fresh, and was over $30.

The view is pretty, but still not worth this awful service and high prices. I’d consider this place a tourist trap. Spend your vacation time elsewhere, people!

I’ve been to the castle many times but never to The carriage House to eat. The food was delicious. Our waitress Kat was great too. She has a great sense of humor. Can’t wait to go back in warmer weather.

Breathtaking views, delicious food, and unforgettable nature nearby!

The Carriage House Restaurant at Castle in the Clouds is hands down one of the most scenic spots in all of Lake Winnipesaukee. The view from the terrace is absolutely jaw-dropping—especially on a clear day. We were lucky enough to catch a calm day with very little wind, and having lunch with that panorama laid out before us was an experience in itself.

The food was delicious—fresh, well-prepared, and beautifully presented. Prices are on the higher side, but honestly, you’re paying for the spectacular location and atmosphere. It’s well worth it for a relaxing, memorable meal.

A hidden gem nearby is the Brook Trail, located just a short walk from the little ice cream stand on your way out. This trail follows a series of seven waterfalls, each unique and stunning in its own way. It’s easy to see why poets and writers have found inspiration here. The trail is peaceful, shaded, and full of natural beauty—absolutely worth the detour.

We plan to return every time we’re in the area—and next time, we’re bringing our best binoculars to soak in even more of that amazing view.

Note: very close to where the ice cream stand is as a pond with huge trout! I mean really huge trout. You can use a quarter and buy some trout food. Make sure you bring quarters with you! (also if you have any pieces of bread left over from lunch, they like that too! I’m sure the environmentalist will not like me saying so.)

Highly recommend for anyone looking for great food, a serene setting, and a chance to connect with the natural beauty of the Lakes Region.

Nice restaurant, pleasant staff, beautiful view on patio. The chicken salad sandwiches were nice. I question the mandatory 18% tip since you order at the counter, they bring you the food and then you clean your table. I think it should be discretionary. And since there’s an 18% mandatory tip, I felt it’s not good that they put another tip line on the receipt. Some people might tip twice for what’s not really wait staff service. In general, it’s a good place and I would go again when visiting this beautiful museum.

Wonderful evening. Stunning atmosphere. Entertaining music. Excellent food- we both had the Lobster roll, as always it was awesome. Service was slow. And sometime confused as no one seemed to know who was assigned to serve our table. Must be patient , it is a charity event to raise funds for the historic estate. We will be back later this summer…. It is ALL about the view!!

First of all -the view here is ah-mazing and alone worth the visit. I could sit here for hours. This is casual dining at its finest. There is a short menu of mostly sandwiches which are very good and served in sturdy cardboard boxes. The family got the chicken salad w chips (very good flavor and decent portion), steak and cheese-good size and ok on taste -maybe slightly on dry side and some pieces a bit chewy), chicken cesare salad -good size, fresh crisp lettuce with maybe a smaller amount of checked than hoped for and lastly the daily flatbread which was buffalo chicken with Alfredo base. Crust was soft and lightly crispy with very mild buffalo sauce (we went back a second time this week for the view and got the flatbread again-this time tomato and artichoke with an Alfredo base). A few in the group had clam chowder which they said was good (not great). You order food at the bar then proceed to pick a table outside (or inside but why miss eating with the view in good weather!!) and place your number card on the table and the meal is brought to you in boxes. There are no refills in drinks. There is a bar but much to my sister’s dismay no frozen drinks. Overall worth the visit and will be back multiple times to sit and admire that view

FOOD:
Great food, no real vegan options though.
I recommend the thyme fries and soup.

SERVICE:
The staff was really friendly and attentive, but the service was pretty slow. In addition to the 30 minute wait, it is quite a nuance.

MISC:
Nice place with nice atmosphere. Note that the outside terrace can become pretty cold starting October.

Good food and service. Long wait time, one hour and 45 minutes. We were given a pager but we decided to go tour the castle. We came back and our table was ready.
Upstairs had local vendors selling crafts. We enjoyed browsing and made a few purchases. Santa was there.
Formerly a horse stall, I liked the interior. There is a bar, fireplace and a seasonal outdoor dining area with a great view.
I had the Portobello, a large mushroom cap with artichoke spinach dip and a side salad . My friend, she had a Cranberry Walnut Chicken wrap with sweet potato waffle fries. Both were good .
WiFi didn’t work.
Limited menu and pricey. But, it makes it easier to decide quickly.
I recommend this restaurant.

Simple, Hearty Cafe, in a Historic Setting

This is the restaurant for the “Castle in the Clouds;” we came for the Christmas event, had a cocktail as we waited for the trolley; and dinner after we finished the mansion tour.

The Carriage House had literally been a carriage house ; and you’ll be seated in decorated horse stalls: The entrance is inviting, with a large fireplace, and plenty of room to sit and wait.

The menu is very much a lunch menu, with burgers, salads, and soups: But the view, is unbelievable, and really, what we all come here for.
