Drift is a local, independent cafe serving premium coffee and brunch, built by people who love good coffee and food. Our team has been inspired by cafes all over the world. Founders Michael and Ben Powell grew up surfing competitively and traveling the world. Throughout these surfing adventures, a desire for coffee formed. We serve things that we enjoy consuming – items that are minimally processed, nutritious, fun and flavorful. Some of which have attachment to traditions of diverse cultures. They are made in-house from clean ingredients, prepared fresh each time you order. Our premium coffee comes from Ceremony Coffee Roasters, a specialty roaster. We use local ingredients when we can. Right around corner from our Hotel Ballast. Nice .25 mile walk. Is up hill. Ordered the Avocado Toast on Sourdough. Very very good. Forgive me. Forgot a pic. Hubby had the Market Bowl Breakfast. He said very delicious.

This place is amazing. Typically when I get coffee on my trips the food at those places is just OK. Not only were the drinks top notch, but the breakfast burrito was one of the best I ever had. A little spice, cut by the avocado. Highly recommend if you’re looking to fuel yourself for a day walking around exploring the town.

This is my go to spot downtown. Literally here everyday. Drift has a number of shops but this one is in the heart of downtown and consistently provides such friendly and inviting customer service… and coffee. It’s to the point where when I go somewhere else for coffee on the weekends – it’s disappointing.
The attitude of the baristas and the managers is top-notch and just makes it feel like a place that you could hang out for hours.
Aside from the coffee and customer service, whole the food menu is slightly more limited compared to the larger cafes- it’s still freaking excellent.
Deeply appreciate the staff’s dedication. Super personable and keeps me coming back.

Drift Coffee and Kitchen in downtown Wilmington is absolutely beautiful — the aesthetic is clean, modern, and inviting. I also loved the walkability of the area, making it such a convenient and enjoyable stop. The food was fresh and delicious, perfect for a light breakfast or brunch.
While I wasn’t a huge fan of the coffee during my visit — it tasted very acidic to me — I truly feel this spot has so much great potential. Maybe I caught them on an off day, because everything else about the experience was wonderful. I definitely plan to stop back at one of their other locations to test out my theory!
Overall, Drift is a great space for a casual breakfast, a coffee date with friends, or simply relaxing with family. Highly recommend visiting for the vibes alone!

We ordered a burrito with no onions, it was all onions on just the one side. Didn’t even put one of the ingredients in.
We got the food to go. Maybe should have just ate there? Seemed like lack of care for our food. Whether it’s for there or to go you make it proper. Won’t return.

We went there for cold brew but apparently they dont know what cold brew coffee is. It is listed on their menu but they serve you formally hot brewed drip coffee. Anyone who knows what cold brew is knows that its course ground coffee, brewed cold for 24-48hrs in a refrigerator. Hot brewed coffee, turned cold is very acidic, stale and bitter. It gets my goat that they advertise “cold brew” on their menu but dont know what it is. It is the year 2026 and people who work/own a cafe should know the difference. I had to order a latte instead after I taste tested their, “cold brew”. *This is also known as false advertising because they charge you for, “flash cold brew” Im not sure what the word flash has to do with it, $4.60, vs hot brewed coffee on ice for $3.

Didn’t have any food but the magic (a cortado) was fantastic! The guy who took my order was knowledgeable and highly engaged. You could tell he loved coffee and enjoyed what he did. It was a pleasure to order here! Would highly recommend and come back! Would love to try the food!

A lovely breakfast spot near the riverwalk! Coffee was smooth (I ordered a hot lavender latte with oat milk, my partner ordered a white mocha latte) and while the Bodega Breakfast Sandwich was a bit on the greasy side it was still filled with savory flavors — the Drift secret sauce is delish!! Atmosphere was quiet and inviting with friendly customer service and good music.
