Nice Italian restaurant with good food, good service and nice ambiance. We enjoyed the spaghetti and meatballs, and Orcchiette Sausage pasta dish with gluten free pene. Loved that they had GF option. We had to order bread, wish it was complimentary, but it was worth it. Warm, soft and melted in your mouth. The caprese salad was delicious, once it finally came out. The tiramisu was delicious…soft and light. The vanilla “gelato” was disappointing. Tasted like regular ice cream and I had to return it. I couldn’t get past the freezer burn clumps and icy texture. Not sure how old it was. I would have given it 5 stars if it wasn’t for the ice cream, and waiter forgetting to order the salad. Great spot though and willing to come back!

Wonderful dining experience. The wait staff was friendly and informative. We had the seasonal peppers as an appetizer. All the food was amazing. We ordered the recommended ala carte meatball and bread and was not disappointed. The bread took some time but was well worth the wait. I had the Brisket Tortellini with vodka sauce. The wife had the Chicken alla Joe. The vodka sauce was rich and decadently creamy. If you’re in the area there are multiple excellent Italian diners on this street (Franklin) you can’t go wrong.

Cafe Farina has excellent vibes— coming from Chicago I’m always looking for a tasty bite and an added bonus is aesthetics. The aesthetic of this place is super cute.
The food is good. I think it could be better. We had a meatball appetizer and the meatballs were delicious, but they were not very hot and the ricotta topping was very small and not enough to go around. We ordered the pork chop calabrese – great review there other than the potatoes being a bit underdone. Two of us had the chicken alla limone. WOW. This dish is so tasty. The sauce is truly incredible, however, it’s $23 for two chicken breasts in sauce. I feel like for this price they should add potato wedges similar to chicken Vesuvio that soak in the sauce or a small addition of angel hair. Both of those are affordable options for the restaurant that just make a meal more complete and the dining experience better as a consumer. The espresso martini was GREAT. Lastly, we had the chicken parm sandwich at our table with truffle parm fri s—-the fries were excellent! While the sandwich was delicious, the sauce on the sandwich was nearly nonexistent.
When our food was delivered, nobody came to check on us for a while and they were not that busy for the amount of staff they had in the restaurant. We wanted an extra side of sauce but the others at the table were nearly finished dining by the time we could make eye contact with someone to bring a sauce over. We asked one server, and he was not our server, which we understand, but ours we could not get ahold of. She was tending to her other tables but never came to check on us so eventually we were able to flag her down while she was helping another table…which felt rude on our part…but nobody would come to us otherwise. The man refilling water glasses was ON TOP of it, our water never went below half of a glass.
This is not a negative review and I would not discourage you from going, I definitely think this place is worth a try. The food is delicious, the restaurant just needs a little more attention to detail and small adjustments. I think Cafe Farina is an excellent spot to have in Michigan City and will remain a favorite, for the price, it just needs a few tweaks. I would go back and look forward to going back and trying other dishes.

It’s not every day that you get to enjoy a meal and have it be an experience too. As a native from STL MO and having some of the best Italian food around the corner on the hill, I can still say that Cafe Farina’s spaghetti sauce is the best I’ve ever had. And the meatballs were so good that melted in your mouth. Best meal I had in Michigan city. The atmosphere was very nice as well. I’d highly recommend this to anyone passing through.

My friend and I shared the most incredible dining experience recently. We both were in agreement on one thing. It was the best dinner either one of us had consumed in a very long time. It was at Cafe Farina in Michigan City IN.
My friend started out with some ridiculously fresh
Delaware Bay Oysters. I never saw such a smile come across his face as he literally inhaled the oysters, it seemed. I, on the other hand, dove into the house salad with both hands. I have never experienced such a flavor profile coming from two simple ingredients – Olive oil and Parmesan Cheese. The night was off to a spectacular beginning.
It was quite difficult to select a main course as there were definitely a few contenders from which to choose. However, one of the the nights “Special Features” rose to the top that neither one of us could resist – the Chilean Sea Bass in a lemon butter sauce. And oh, was it fine!
The Chilean Sea Bass was cooked to perfection with a palette engaging texture that was almost undefinable, it was so good. The deliciously balanced flavors of the lemon butter sauce took the dish to the next level. It was absolutely delicious!
How do you end a fabulous dinner? With the Strawberry Cream Cake, of course. It’s appearance
was one of beauty and the creamy, silky character of it was accented with a multitude of luscious flavors. Ascend to heaven!
Kudos to the Chef and the kitchen staff for a job done exceedingly well. Our server, Kendra, was outstanding throughout the night. It was truly a wonderful dining experience all around. I highly recommend Cafe Farina.

I went here with my sister and grandma and we had a wonderful experience, our waiter was fantastic and the people who cooked the food did amazingly. I had the waiter pick my food cause Im indecisive and he did well picking, and I’m a picky person and he chose a great pasta for me. The food was taking awhile cause my sister has celiac disease and whole time he was talking to us and asking her questions about it being so very generous. They seemed upset they didn’t have gluten free appetizers but I think their gonna maybe redo the menu to add more stuff that can be gluten free friendly, and also they did great with the cross contamination, the waiter apologized and told us the wait took awhile cause they had to do separate pot for the gluten free pasta. Such kind people there even the people who was eating there was friendly and made some conversations with my grandma. Fantastic place, the pasta was perfectly cooked the sauce was the most delicious thing I ever tasted. The meatballs there was good, had a crunch on the outside but soft inside with a spice, and I got mozzarella sticks and they was huge and the taste was amazing, very well seasoned. Overall in my truth thats the best place ever to eat. The waiter was so fantastic we tipped him 33 dollars, whoever he was he needs to be noticed more !!

I dont know if it was an off night? I come from an Italian household, Was very excited to have this type of place to go to in town. I will not speak for the rest of my table just my own dish. The Square Noodle Bolognese. The pasta had great texture. but that is where it ends. The bolognese was just made with the meatballs. I still has a section of one that is how i know that. It was very bland. They dont even have salt or pepper on the table to try to save it. I know rent uptown is over the top, but paying $25 for a dish and that is all you get. No other sides and you have to pay for the bread. The olive oil that came with the bread also was just oil, there is no seasoning in it. Sorry i was super hopeful when going there. But it was just OK. It felt very overpriced for the quality.

Four of us had lunch there and we each had a different item from the menu. Two of them enjoyed gluten-free noodles, but each had a different protein and sauce with them. I had braised brisket tortellini in vodka sauce, it was excellent! The last diner had the square noodles in Bolognese.
