Stopped here late in the evening on 11/4/2025. The staff refuse to take your order at the window, even though you’re standing right in front of them. Instead, they re-direct you to ordering online while they resume scrolling on their phones. The staff are also non-English speaking. Influencers touted this as an authentic ramen experience, but this cannot be achieved by having Mexican workers sling out Japanese food. You would have to know exactly what you want and what you are ordering, because these people refuse to speak to you or answer any questions about the menu. It is also quite expensive considering the lack of service and plasticware for dine-in.

response to owner: What is the best way to contact your restaurant? I tried calling the number with no success getting in contact with anyone

Completely forgot the broth to their most expensive ramen on Uber eats order. The card received was just a reminder I was supposed to receive the soup!

The delivery app refuses to compensate me. May I ask to go pick up the broth or receive another complete order? I would love to give an honest review of this place but this is just sad the ingredients but no flavor

I’ll have to get a picture the next time we go (I was too excited to try it), but this ramen was GREAT!!

I ordered the toridashi miso ramen and my husband got the toridashi red (both w/ pork chashu) and we were both really pleased. The broth was delicious and had layers of flavor. Not like some ramen spots that just feel like they bomb a basic chicken broth with salt.

And for me, sometimes the creamier ramen bone broths will mess with my stomach but this broth was GREAT. Flavorful, depth of flavor, and not too heavy. Plus, the mechanism they have in their to go bowls to keep the noodles and toppings from getting too soggy in transport is BRILLIANT. Also, considering the high quality of broth, noodles, & ingredients I’d say this is a really well-priced bowl of ramen — especially nowadays.

Highly recommend this father/daughter run shop & we’ll definitely be repeat cuatomers!!

It’s a ghost kitchen with a nice and clean seating area. Best to order in advance. The ramen is so so good! Im not a big fan of chicken broth but the chachu pork is the most tender out of every well known ramen restaurant in Austin. The red ramen is also very creamy. Yakitori is so tender, juicy, and flavorful. Seriously it is very rare in Austin to find a ramen place with actual Japanese chef cooking the food for you. I was scared that they may close early, since it’s summer and many restaurants tend to close early on a slow day. Thanks god it was still open at 10pm.

Delicious ramen! Love how the container keeps the broth separate from the ingredients so it’s fresh and tasty to-go.
Ordered the miso pork deluxe with spice bomb and vegan with spice bomb.
Both were rich with flavor with healthy portions. Definitely recommend the spice bomb which comes on the side for extra flavor ️
Will definitely return

Matsuba is an amazing hidden gem if you prefer a lighter, healthier chicken-based broth that is still tasty with lots of umami. It was a bit of a drive to get to this ghost kitchen, but there was ample no-frills seating to have your meal.

We ordered online and picked it up at the window. The toridashi black (chicken broth with black garlic oil) was delicious. You also have the option of ordering chicken instead of pork chashu. We also had karaage as an appetizer and dorayaki for dessert, which was a fun finish to the meal.

In my opinion, it is more difficult to make a flavorful chicken broth for ramen than a pork based one (tonkotsu), but these guys do a fabulous job of it.

I love their attention to detail (read their reheating instructions on the pamphlet in the order, and you’ll see what I mean), and I will definitely visit again next time I’m in Austin!

Food was ok, service was un-existent, there is a window where they are supposed to take your order according to some signage, but then they say you can only order online and not willing to answer any questions.

I friendly staff on their phone instead of taking care of customers.

Good for takeout but in my opinion too expensive to be handed your food in a bag.

Matsuba Ramen is the kind of place you hope to stumble on and then immediately start bringing everyone you know.

From the first bite, it is clear this is real, authentic ramen, not a watered down version made to appeal to trends. The broth is the star. Deep, rich, and layered, with the kind of slow developed flavor that only comes from proper technique and patience. You can taste the hours that went into it. Nothing is over salted or gimmicky, just balanced and intentional.
The noodles have the right bite and texture, springy and fresh, holding the broth perfectly instead of turning soft or mushy. Toppings are treated with the same respect. The chashu is tender and flavorful, the egg is cooked exactly how it should be, and even the simplest components feel thoughtful rather than decorative.

What really sets Matsuba apart is its consistency and restraint. There is no need to overload the menu or chase novelty. The focus is on doing the fundamentals correctly, which is exactly what great ramen shops do. It feels closer to a neighborhood spot you would find in Japan than a flashy restaurant trying to impress Instagram.

The atmosphere matches the food. Calm, unpretentious, and welcoming, with staff who clearly care about what they are serving. It is the kind of place that feels grounded in craft rather than hype.

If you care about authentic ramen and want something that stands out by being excellent instead of loud, Matsuba Ramen is a must. This is a place you go once and immediately plan your return.

10/10 would recommend, a hidden gem down in Austin. A family-own restaurant and will treat you like family.
The workers were super nice and very kawaii!
The food is very delicious (makes you feel like you’re in Japan), the takoyaki is my favorite.

If you want the best takeout Japanese food, this is the place for you.

Matsuba ramen is a gem!
I got the Matsuba Toridashi with chicken chashu and it was 10/10.
The broth was light and airy, both the chicken chashu and broth were very flavorful, and the noodles were perfectly chewy.
I really enjoyed the house blend chili paste which added spice and a bit of sweetness.
The ramen being take out did not affect the quality at all; it was awesome having dine in restaurant quality ramen from the comfort of my home!
