Authentic Venezuelan gem ✨️ build your own cachapas were absolutely worth the 40min drive. The guasacaca(green sauce of the gods) was on POINT. Atmosphere was clean, welcoming, and trendy. Staff was friendly and informative, overall great vibes, highly recommend- we will definitely go back to support this sweet little business any time we’re in the area.
My only disappointment was the portion size for the tequeños. They were cute little guys, 3 peices per order, very gourmet. My husband saw the portions and correctly ordered 3 orders for two skinny people. Normally, I would deduct a star from their food score for that since the tequeños were the draw, but times are tough for local businesses and Tequeños are NOT cheap to make. I’m not gonna deduct a star for it, because it won’t prevent us from returning for their food, if you’re coming for the tequeños plan on ordering double what you think you’ll actually eat, and you’ll be satisfied. 10-10(sori my other photos of the place didn’t save somehow, I’ll update with more if I can recover them later)

My meal was good and flavourful. I appreciated that they had a vide variety of toppings including sweet Plantain. Their was a nice juice selection, their passion fruit juice was good. The service was good and the space was clean. Do wish they would toast after it’s filled to warm up the meat and for the cheese to be a little melted. Would recommend for people looking for naturally gluten free items.

Think Chipotle-style ordering but with Venezuelan food. Fresh ingredients, great portions, and tons of flavor. Everything was delicious and the staff was super friendly. Quick, affordable, and different in the best way!! One of my favorite lunch spots in New Haven.

Quite fresh tasting arepas and ingredients. We had to wait a bit to order because they were making new arepas in the back, which is a great sign. They had a variety of toppings. This was a filling lunch for an affordable price.

We tried to go to another restaurant on the street, but it turned out to be closed. An employee there suggested we try Somos, and we are glad they did! This place is amazing. I’d describe is a small, family owned Venezuelan version of Chipotle with super fresh food. I had no idea what to order, but the owner was kind enough to help us with our selections. It was amazing. I’ve never had a cachapa before and now I’m craving them. I’m sorry Sally and Mr. Pepe, but I’ll be visiting this restaurant every time I’m in New Haven from now on.

Incredible food! I could eat cachapas for every meal – love the variety of sauces and they can be mixed and matched for awesome flavor combos. The Tequeños are also delicious

Really good arepas. I had the pabellon one. Just a tip: if you dont put any sauce, it will feel dry. I recommend the garlic sauce!

I love the food here. However, they come across as penny pinchers who intend to deceive you for more money. For example, they have a list of ~7 sauces on the menu, but they don’t tell you that every sauce after the first one is $0.50! I was a customer for 8 months before I learned that I was charged for sauce! If you want to charge for sauce, fine, but there should be sign indicating this.
They also only give 2 tomato slices. It feels like every food topping is carefully counted to give the least possible amount.

Highly recommend creating your own! But must start with the Cachapa!!! Sweet corn arepas are just as good if not better than the Yale colombian arepas cart by the Peabody. An now you can get them at any point of time!!! Any whoo! Cachapa and Carne Mechada is my go too! Get w.e. toppings you’d like an ask for the Garlic Aioli an the Guasaca as sauces. It goes great with the carne mechada! Enjoy.
If you want the replica of my order as the photo shows:
Cachapa
Carne Mechada
More corn
Plantains
Pickled onions
Queso Blanco
(Sauces Not spicy…but has Cilantro)
Garlic aioli
Guasaca
I recommend dinning in because the sauces are as you can see are given with love. If you take out you may want to ask for more sauce if you end up enjoying it as much as I did. Thank you so much for opening up!

I started getting food here since two years ago. The quantity reduced drastically. I always took the rice bowl. At first, I would feel pretty full by the time I complete the bowl. Now, I need two bowls to feel full.
In the beginning they used to give 4 tomato slices; they reduced it to 3 after an year; now they give 2; recently when getting food, a tomato slice was a little big so they only put that one slice. It was the last straw to me. Never going back again!!
They are already pricey for what they are. I don’t want to pay 12-15$ for a meal and still feel hungry
