One evening my meal arrived with almost no sauce, and when I politely asked for more, the request was refused. On another night, our group of six (each adult with a child) was told we could not split checks or maintain separate tabs, forcing us to manually track every order and charge items to our individual rooms ourselves — an unnecessary and frustrating process.
We also attempted to follow the hotel’s own check-in information, which specifically promotes ordering delivery from the restaurant (“Edgar in Bed”). I placed an order expecting delivery, only to discover 45 minutes later that they do not actually deliver the food — we were told we had to come pick it up ourselves and carry it back to the room. This directly contradicted the information provided by the hotel.
The most concerning incident happened on our final night. I charged dinner to my room and wrote “cash” on the gratuity line because I planned to leave the tip in cash before we left (I had the cash with me). While we were still seated finishing a bottle of wine, the waiter came to the table, examined the signed bill, and loudly demanded in front of our entire group, “You put cash here and didn’t give it to me — where’s my cash?”
I explained we had not even left yet and intended to leave the tip on the table when we finished. He continued insisting I either hand over cash immediately or re-sign the bill with a a written tip. Being confronted publicly like this while still dining was extremely uncomfortable and inappropriate.
Overall, the service was slow, the food did not justify the price, and the staff interaction — particularly this incident — was unprofessional enough that I would not recommend dining here.
The service was great, and the ambiance made it a great spot to relax and enjoy a meal. Whether you’re there for a quick bite or a full dining experience, it’s definitely worth a visit.
For breakfast, service was ‘ok’ but could have been a little more personable and friendly… Tho, I will say our server was attentive, keeping us filled with hot coffee! But charging someone who came to visit us for a cup of coffee even though he brought a cup in was ridiculous. Coffee should be free in a setting like this…. Not $5! Also, the hash skillet sounded good and looked nice, but the hash was basically a thick cut corned beef that was diced up in the kitchen and barely heated up (it was mostly cool) and served under the eggs. There was no flavoring to the corned beef, nor the fingerling potatoes in the dish – so bland. The scrambled eggs on top were cooked perfectly though.
Overall – Mixed feelings… Pricey and not worth the price for breakfast is my summation.
While the coffee and eggs were perfectly prepared, the main dish proved deeply disappointing. The first serving of French toast arrived cold and stale, suggesting it had been sitting for some time. The replacement order was only marginally better – still cool, and accompanied by overcooked bacon. Only after the manager intervened did the third attempt deliver what should have been served initially – hot, tasty French toast and properly cooked bacon. Unfortunately, this came after a 30-minute delay and two rejected plates.
For a restaurant in a prestigious hotel, this level of quality control is troubling. The initial servings suggested a kitchen practice of using pre-prepared items rather than cooking to order, falling far short of the standards one expects from an establishment of this caliber. While the ambiance and service staff met expectations, the kitchen’s inconsistency and apparent reliance on non-fresh preparations make it difficult to recommend.
The food was great! I had a few breakfasts and lunches while staying at the hotel. The servers were very attentive. My only issue was at one dining there were fruit flies landing on my food. I was seated at a table near the bar and I think they were coming from there. It only happened once out of a few dining experiences, but once with a bug landing on your food is enough to warrant a lost star. Other than than I would have giving five stars. Maybe next time.
Highly recommend.
Service was lovely, they told us where Edgar Hoover sat and let us took a peak into the that area.
Price is very decent, for a nice hotel restaurant. We’ll come back again. 🙂
