Food is very well prepared. It is a small spot, that by 1st glance you may overlook. I found them online while driving for work so I happened to be in the area. Food is very delicious, I highly recommend, I gave 4 for the atmosphere because as I said it is easy to overlook but if you get a chance check them out.

It not bad the food is good but they didn’t have all the food ready on time and I
Came around 3 . I’m a nice genuine person. But I thought evening hours like 3 or 4 all the food be ready especially baked Mac and cheese and ribs and potatoes salad and everything. Maybe a different time when I’m ready I try them again but just not now .
It just I came out my way thinking I get some good soul food. I was hungry and had the money to pay for a nice meal to eat and I come out my way and went around 3 :30 and the food not everything is ready .when I been to alot of soul food restaurant around 3:30 and all their food is ready and i had a meal to enjoy. Instead of chicken and cabbage that not dinner to me

Great food, no question—but there are some consistency issues. They’re often out of whiting fish, and not everyone eats catfish or other meats. The hours aren’t always reliable; if you say you open at 12, you should be open at 12 and not have people drive over to find the gate closed and be told to come back in 2 hours. That’s frustrating, especially for those coming from far away.
If the business is also handling catering and doesn’t have the manpower or space for walk-in service at the same time, it might make sense to dedicate specific days strictly for catering and update the public hours accordingly.
It would also help to consider joining delivery services like Uber Eats or Grubhub. That would cut down on unnecessary trips and phone calls, especially since there seems to only be one phone line that can be busy at times.
Revamping the front of the store to reflect the excellence of the food might help (and possibly expand into a bigger space since it’s so tight in there; you’ve gotta be in and out to make room for others to order, but you must also go in person since there’s no other way to order at the moment).
Amazing food, but definitely room for improvement. Hope management takes this into consideration for the sake of those wanting to support our own businesses in the community but also believe this should not be at the expense of quality, consistent service.

I checked this spot out with some of my friends and I LOVED IT ! We got the catfish, cabbage, mac and cheese and candied yams. When we got there lots of stuff were sold
Out but we were looking forward to the candied yams however they ran out. When we came back to pick up our food they restocked on the candied yams and the girl at the front told us she got us and gave us a great portion of it because she knew we really wanted to try it. She let us try the cabbage which was actually really good. Usually I skip out on the cabbage at lot of soul food spots but it’s great here. Support this business! Super well deserved.

Its takeout only. This restaurant has really good food. I dont take the time to write many reviews but I was impressed. Its a tiny shop that’s puts out meals that remind you of home. I came 20 minutes to closing and I got fried wings, Mac n cheese and candied yams. I waited maybe 10-12 minutes. My food was hot including the sides. The wings was juicy and seasoned to the bone. The mac was cheesy just like your grandma makes at home and the yams was sticky and sweet. Flavor was not overpowering at all. The server even threw in a side of green beans which was tasty as well. The place is small but clean. The storefront does not scream come inside but believe me you will not be disappointed. Give these folks a try. I would have included photos but i sampled the food and didnt stand a chance.

The food is great. It’s not an eat-in place, all orders are to go. It was a 10 minute-or-less wait. I ordered the whiting fish sandwich and it was fabulous- the fish was fresh- cooked upon request, flavorful and not oily at all. The best whiting I’ve had in a while and not the fake whiting that some places pass off. I would be a repeat customer just for that fish, but the Mac & Cheese and string beans are delicious too. BTW, it’s around the corner, not on Merrick but front on 115th Ave.
Do not pass this up, give Soul City a try.

First of all when you google the store what you see online is definitely not what you pull up to. The time says opening at 11 they did not open till 1:00 when my order was supposed to be ready to go at 1:00 it’s now 1:40 and I’m still sitting here waiting for my order. This is my first time using this place and is definitely my last time. The The security cage does not go up no higher. The front door is broken. Look at the top part of the door.

I couldn’t post my experience at Soul City fast enough! My family & I can’t stop talking about the best soul food we’ve eaten at a restaurant in a while. Everything was top tier , customer service & the food. The young lady who prepared our meals to carry out gave us samples of everything we purchased & yes we were thoroughly pleased. I highly recommend this establishment if you’re visiting out of the area and in the mood for some delicious soul food. Sometimes it can be difficult finding restaurants to satisfy your pescatarian diet but thankfully I came across this lil gem in my Google search yay!!! My catfish with green beans Mac & cheese & yams was amazing . I was so focused on my meal I forgot what my sister & nephew had The portions were great…we were all so full afterwards & still had leftovers.. I usually post my reviews when I get back home from trips, but in this case I had to make an exception. We’re already in talks about going back on our last day here. I already know I’ll be revisiting for any future visits back to NYC. Well deserved 5 stars!!

I called ahead and ordered a catfish dinner and was told it would be $15. When I got to the store, they told me it was $17, which confused me because that wasn’t the price I was given on the phone. I didn’t argue, I just paid and left.
But as I was standing outside in front of the store, the woman at the front (the heavyset lady) started talking about me disrespectfully, thinking I had already gone. That honestly hurt and caught me off guard. I considered confronting her, but then I thought to myself that a professional employee or good business wouldn’t act like that, so I chose to just walk away instead.
To make it worse, when I got home, I realized they didn’t even give me what I ordered it was fried shrimp instead of catfish. The food was still decent, but the whole experience left me disappointed. I actually liked that place before, but after being talked about like that. Food was still good but I lost respect for it. Knowing me ima still go there cause food is good

Certain food items like Mac n cheese and cabbage was very good. However the times I order fried fish and smothered turkey wings they were overly salty which made it hard to finish. Lastly I call in my order in advanced and when I arrived 30 mins later my food was not ready. I ended up waiting another 20 mins which defeated the purpose of calling in advance
