I came here to celebrate my birthday, and overall it was a nice experience. The food was excellent, fresh, and delicious, and the service was good.

My only complaint was the music. It was very loud, which made it difficult to have a conversation. We asked if they could lower the volume, but they said they couldn’t control it and that they had called the manager. Unfortunately, the issue was never resolved. I also didn’t enjoy the music selection.

I think that for a Japanese restaurant, playing Japanese music would create a more immersive and authentic experience.

This is what I ordered, and it was all very fresh and tasty:

We’ve been to ROL in Irvine and HB. This review is for the HB location. The HB location has tables and counter seating unlike Irvine where it just has counter seating. They are known for their hand rolls which feature a crunchy and warm seaweed wrap. And they serve one roll at a time so you can savor each one slowly. They have a great deal during lunch – 4 rolls (you can sub 2 rolls but premium rolls will be charged extra). Luncheon special also comes with miso soup and endamame. It costs $15. The food was amazing and service was impeccable. They have other locations such as in Irvine and Fountain Valley. If you get here by noon on a weekday, there’s no wait unlike the Irvine location. Highly recommend their rolls, cucumber salad, and fries. Another hit by Kei Concepts!

My go to item here is the kaisendon. It’s one of their lunch specials that’s available until 4 pm everyday. The bowl contains rice on the bottom, topped with salmon, spicy tuna, shrimp, scallop, and blue crab.

How you eat the don is as normal until about the halfway point. You’ll then request for the miso salmon broth to be poured into the bowl for a whole new flavor. That’s my favorite part.

Service here is always top notch. They’re super nice and attentive. It’s slightly on the louder side here but that’s to be expected since it’s located in a pretty populated location and it’s a popular spot to get some quality sushi.

I was conflicted about whether to give Rol 4 or 5 stars. I’m a sushi and hand roll aficionado. I’d eat it daily and I’ve been to most of the places in SoCal. The fish quality here is very good. I got the lunch special and at $16 for 4 rolls that’s a very good price. But the rolls are very small. Usually I can have enough at 5 rolls to be full. Here I had 6 and I could have still eaten more.

Other than that, I have no complaints. It’s a clean restaurant located right off beach blvd in main part of city. The servers were attentive and nice. I’m just a big eater and I would have to order 7-8 rolls to feel satisfied.

We sat at the bar counter & let our server know up front that the three of us would be paying on separate checks to use our $20 Bonus Cards. The server acknowledged this & told us it was fine. My brother ordered the 7 Set. My husband & I each ordered The High Roller set. At no point during ordering were we informed that the High Roller set was already considered a promotion or that the bonus cards could not be applied.
Only after we ordered did another employee–possibly a manager–come over to tell us that:
Only one bonus card could be used, even though we were paying separately & The High Roller set was exempt from all discounts. He even stated that we were technically sharing one table, despite the fact that we were seated at the bar counter, which made no sense. If sitting at the bar is considered one table, then who is picking up the check for the other guests seated at the bar–since, by that logic, we are all considered one table?
He then made a condescending analogy about a party of 11 all trying to use bonus cards on separate checks–an analogy delivered in a way that felt patronizing & insinuated that we were somehow uncultured or “from the countryside.” The entire interaction felt unnecessary, dismissive & disrespectful.
The issue wasn’t the policy–it was the lack of transparency & the rude, condescending tone used when explaining it. Had this been clearly communicated before we ordered, it would have been completely fine. Unfortunately, the poor communication & lack of basic customer service really took away from what could have been an enjoyable meal.
Not sure if we’ll be back to this particular location.

Food 5/5, we ordered 7 set since the server recommended for the first visit. We sat at the bar, the chef made the rolls and served it right away. She also made sure that we enjoyed one first and gave us some time in between then served the next. The food was so fresh, the portion was good. Definitely recommend.
The server was nice but he was pretty busy serving the whole restaurant by himself. The glass still has lipstick on. So I think they should be more careful about that.
But overall, we had a great experience.

This is normally my favorite ROL location because it’s less crowded and you can usually get a seat during lunch or dinner rush. Unfortunately, my visit tonight was very off-putting.
We sat at the bar, and the sushi chef preparing our food was constantly sniffling. It was happening so frequently that my fiancé and I started counting—about once every 8-10 seconds. It made the entire experience feel unsanitary and uncomfortable while watching our food being prepared.
I understand people can have allergies or a cold, but if you’re not feeling well, you shouldn’t be preparing food for customers. It really took away from what is usually a great experience at this location.

This was my second visit to this place, and I still love the roll concept which is fast, easy-to-make hand rolls that are both convenient and delicious.

For the appetizer, we started with the Salmon Tartare. The bite-sized portions were perfect for sharing. My boyfriend and I each opted for the 6-roll set menu, which allows you to swap out two rolls from their hand roll selection. I swapped the Albacore for the Blue Crab. Of course, you don’t have to go with the set menu, but it does make ordering easier since you don’t have to decide on each roll individually.

The key here is ordering the special dipping sauces. We always get a trio, and this time we chose the Truffle Soy Sauce, Yuzu Kosho, and Kizami Wasabi (which is essentially fresh wasabi). These sauces truly elevated the rolls. They also recommend eating the rolls within 10–15 seconds of serving to enjoy the crispy nori and warm rice at their best.

I also love their cocktails. I started with The Last Ronin, which features shiso-infused whiskey and lemon, a light and refreshing drink to begin with. Next, I had The Oni, their take on a smoked Old Fashioned. Both were excellent choices.

If you’re in the area and craving quick, flavorful hand rolls, definitely check this place out, I promise you won’t be disappointed!

Great quality of food. Ingredients are fresh and tasty. The handrolls are stuffed with chopped fish cubes rather than ground meat, which I love.

Premium handrolls are worth trying. The A5 wagyu beef is so fatty and delicious. Uni is fresh and sweet with no weird taste.

I also love that they have a wide selection of sides. And they are all delicious. Strongly recommend the edamame and furikake fries.

Service is great except that the server forgot about some of our orders. But it’s understandable, we are party of 8 and ordered a bunch of different rolls not sets. They served the missing rolls right away after we mentioned it. Water is filled in time. Payments were settled smoothly(split b/w 4 cards).

Parking is easier and right in front of the restaurant. They have outdoor and indoor seatings, which can accommodate a lot more people than the other locations.

Overall a nice experience. Would recommend this place and come back when in the area.

A+ [would come again / 還會再來]

· a delicious sushi restaurant in Orange County known for their fresh hand rolls

· it was about 5-8$ USD as of October 2025 for one handroll (depending on what fish you get)

· i loved their yuzu sauce (although it costed extra)

· salmon don was really filling + tasted fresh

· also have set menus (but this came out slow in between each roll)

· it was pricy (so i recommend you come to enjoy the quality of sashimi instead of being full)

· server was really nice and gave us their mascot keypins in exchange for food photos posted

tldr: its a perfect spot for sushi + sashimi hand roll lovers
