8pm Valentine’s Day, there was a “pre fixe” menu for 70 per person, food was very clean tasting, portions were okay. Seems like it was a little busy so the service was just okay at best. I only had one drink and woulda had more but poor attention to detail pulls me away from wanting to return. otherwise everything was good

Villa Lulu is a must visit restaurant conveniently located next to Yale in New Haven. There is ample parking on the street and a garage across the street so parking is not an issue.

The restaurant is in a charming, historic building that has been tastefully updated on the inside for comfort for groups of all sizes. There are also outdoor seating options should you prefer.

The waiting staff were professional, knowledgeable and more than willing to help choose from their amazing offerings. I sampled several appetizers and main dishes and each one was as delicious as they were beautiful.

For appetizers I recommend the pork belly and octopus dishes. They were cooked to perfection with flavors and textures that showed sophistication by those preparing the food.

I sampled several main courses but the braised short ribs and the lobster ravioli really stood out. Everything was cooked to perfection. I highly recommend Villa Lulu if you are anywhere in Connecticut.

We stumbled upon Villa LuLu completely by chance as we were walking out of the parking garage on our way to a show at the Shubert last weekend, and what a lucky discovery it turned out to be.

Our waiter, Josh, was fantastic. He graciously walked us through the menu, explaining the dishes and making thoughtful recommendations. His guidance was so helpful that we changed our original plan of just grabbing a few tapas and decided to stay for a full dinner.

The pasta is made fresh, and you can absolutely taste the difference. My husband started with the calamari appetizer and said it the best calamari he has ever had, which is high praise from someone who orders it everywhere.

For dinner, we both had the Casareccia al Brasato, and it was phenomenal.

Between the authentic Italian cuisine, the warm service, and the perfect location before a show, this place was a home run for us.

We can confidently say we’ve found our new go-to dinner spot before every show at the Shubert.

My wife and I enjoyed the food, service, atmosphere and the quiet evening amongst the insanity going on outside of the restaurant. This was a good getaway before a College St Music Theater concert. Recommended.

After watching a show at the Schubert, we walked across the street to this little gem. We were promptly seated and everything we ordered came out a decent amount of time. Wow! This is on our top ten list! We shared the calamari appetizer and it was just the right amount of spice. My husband had the chicken with potatoes and I can’t believe how tender and flavorful it was! Yes, I had to steal a bite. I had the scallops and shrimp over risotto. Oh my! It was freaking amazing! Great atmosphere, great service and delicious food!!

Cute spot for date night! We made reservations for Valentine’s Day. It was very busy and staff was running behind with seating/bussing tables but were sure to continuously check in with guests waiting. Our reservation was for 8:30pm, we did not get seated until about 9:10pm.

Drinks- my husband enjoyed his old fashioned, I got a mock tail. It tasted very medicinal, almost cough drop like. That wasn’t too good unfortunately.

The food was yummy, I was a bit disappointed with the size of the scallop appetizer because it was so yummy! My husband got the tuna tartar, he wasn’t a big fan of the texture. He got a roasted chicken and potato dish, I got lobster fettuccine. Both were to die for!

To finish off the night, I got tiramisu which was delicious, my husband got the raspberry sorbet but he didn’t like it too much.

Overall, a good place for date night. I wouldn’t recommend going on a holiday because of limited parking. If you do, make sure to go early!

We came to Villa Lulu for dinner and had an enjoyable meal outside, except for the occasional moped blasting music.

We weren’t sure about the portions and ordered way too much food for 2 people:
– Crabcake ($18+)
– Scallops ($18+)
– Mushroom Crostini ($14+)
– Brussel Sprouts ($8+)
– Mesclun Mix ($14+)
– Caesar Salad ($13+)

We absolutely loved the scallops with polenta and lobster bisque. They were delicious and we will surely be ordering them again.
The crabcakes were good and the salads were ok. The mushrooms had too much garlic and the sauce was overpowering.

As for the service, they came around a lot at the start of our meal and tried to clear away plates which still had food on them.
But later on when we actually had plates which needed to be cleared or wanted to get the check, they were nowhere to be seen.
Perhaps the experience is different inside.

We were too full for dessert, but hope to try the tiramisu or crème brûlée next time.

Best Italian restaurant in New Haven. The calamari could have been cooked a little crispier. The chicken piccata tasted AMAZING. You have to try the chocolate cake. It’s slammin

Worst dining experience ever! Had a 5:30 reservation. Sat at the table for 22 minutes without even as much as a glass of water. Went to hostess station and asked for a waitress. Finally got a server to come over. Ordered drinks and food at the same time. A single salad came out but still no drinks or water. Drinks finally showed up at 6:12 but not food. At 6:25 got up, paid for the drinks and salad and left. Will never return.

We visited Villa Lulu last night in New Haven, hoping for a solid Italian meal, and came away with mixed feelings. While some dishes were decent, my wife’s Chicken Parmesan was a major disappointment—it was incredibly tough, almost like a rock, making it inedible. My own meal was just okay, but the stark contrast with the poor quality of the chicken dish really stood out.
New Haven has so many amazing Italian spots, and unfortunately, Villa Lulu didn’t quite hit the mark for us, particularly with that chicken parm. The ambiance is nice and the staff seemed friendly enough (though service was a bit slow upstairs), but the food quality needs serious attention to compete in this competitive culinary scene.

One of our friends did not get his dish, but his wife did, and she had the same thing as him. We had to ask for it. Also had to ask for bread, waiter seemed great at the beginning but suddenly the service went downhill fast, yes they got busy, but that’s no excuse.

Overall: Ambiance good, but food inconsistent. The rock-hard Chicken Parm was a definite low point.
