**UNDER NEW OWNERSHIP** La Calera Mexican Bar and Grill was the brainchild of three best friends: Fidel Valdovinos, Adi Karamcheti and Luis Manuel Mejia Sanchez. They had often discussed opening a restaurant where the focus was on great food combined with a bright, welcoming and warm atmosphere.

We came for lunch and were seated immediately. The staff is super friendly and helpful with deciding on menu items. The menu is huge and everything we tried was delicious. You can tell they make the food fresh and use authentic seasoning.
Stop in before 2pm M-F and enjoy the benefit of lunch special prices!
Warning: portions are huge so make sure to go hungry
We had fresh guacamole, bbq chicken nachos, steak fajitas, birria tacos, and my friend tried the frozen strawberry margarita and said it was perfect!
Oh, and they do have slightly lower prices for paying in cash, but it amounted ti a dollar or two on our $50 meal.
Our server was friendly and attentive. When I asked for a recommendation, he suggested the “Plato La Calera,” which includes a variety of items, all made with ground beef. Most of the items on the plate were tasty, though I wasn’t a fan of the stuffed pepper — but that may just come down to personal preference. The queso, unfortunately, was a miss for me; it had the consistency of warm milk and lacked flavor.
We also ordered the hot & spicy burrito, which was flavorful and satisfying. Prices were fair for the portion sizes.
My only real critique is the atmosphere — the building itself felt unfinished and lacked the warm, authentic vibe I was hoping for. I’d love to see them invest a bit more into the ambiance to match the quality of the food and service
The Baldwin location features a gorgeous central bar and plenty of cozy seating, conveniently located on Route 51. Whether you’re there for happy hour, lunch specials, or a full-blown dinner, this spot is a must-visit!
The menu is expansive, with something for everyone—from classic dishes to bold, flavorful favorites. We tried the Mexican street corn (grilled on a stick with butter and seasoning—so good!), and the queso fundido with house-made Mexican sausage, which packed the perfect amount of spice. The homemade guacamole was a huge highlight!
Their margaritas are next-level—highly recommend the frozen strawberry and lime on the rocks!
For entrées, the fajita burrito with steak was stuffed with juicy meat, lettuce, pico de gallo, and melty cheese, all wrapped in a soft flour tortilla and served with rice and more lettuce. The quesabirria was a showstopper—tender birria-style beef folded into cheesy tortillas, served with a rich, savory broth for dipping.
And just when we thought we were too full—dessert happened. The fried ice cream had a crispy golden shell and creamy vanilla center, topped with whipped cream, chocolate drizzle, and a cherry. The flan was smooth, sweet, and absolutely decadent, finished with a perfect layer of caramel.
From top to bottom, La Calaera was a 10/10 experience. Authentic flavors, welcoming vibes, and seriously unforgettable food. Don’t walk—run!
They also always have sports on, great place for a queso and puck drop.
