Stopped by Leven Bakery in Bellaire on Sunday and had a nice experience. Plenty of parking and lots of seating, which was great. I ordered the burger (comes with a choice of salad) and added an egg, plus a cappuccino. Potatoes were yummy, though portions are a bit small. Chill atmosphere, relaxed music, and a comfortable spot to hang out. Overall good, but portions could be a bit bigger.
They are not too far off of I-10 and worth the extra couple of minutes to get to.
We had the fried chicken sandwich and the chicken nuggets with sides of potato salad and leven potatoes. We got tres leches cake, granola, and a cowboy cookie for the road. So good!!
Maybe if you’re truly GF, this is paradise, but I would skip it if you don’t have allergies or sensitivities. The coffee was not good and the pastries were just okay.
Update: back again about two months later and the milk is funky today, not sure what happened but the matcha latte and the pumpkin latte with whole milk have a very strange taste. Also, the bathrooms are dirty and so is the floor.
I love Leven and am so glad they continue to level up: they’re always coming out with new menu items, while maintaining their classics.
More than just a bakery, Leven offers hot, cold, baked, fried a whole variety of foods. They are also sensitive to a variety of other dietary restrictions, clearly labelling their dairy-free, nut-free, and soy-free items.
WE LOVE LEVEN! Please open another location soon!
I am extremely disappointed to write this, because I have (mistakenly) made this place a staple. But this experience has completely broken my trust.
I am celiac, vegan, and have several other allergies, so I understand the challenges restaurants face to accommodate all dietary needs. I am usually very forgiving. But a business that markets itself as “intentional about ingredients” and focused on “feeling good when you eat” should not be mislabeling food in ways that can seriously harm people.
Their chickpea salad sandwich is labeled as vegan on their menu, so I have ordered it multiple times. Today, I saw the chickpea salad mix for sale with a label stating it contains EGGS. This is not a minor oversight. This is a dangerous error, and it is not the only item with incorrect labeling, see “breakfast salad.”
When I asked about it, employees openly admitted that “some things on the menu are messed up.” That explains the stomach aches I have had after eating here. As someone who has not had dairy or eggs in five years, this could have made me severely ill. For someone with an egg allergy, it could be far worse.
There is absolutely no excuse for this level of negligence. Until they take allergen labeling seriously, this place is NOT SAFE for vegans, people with allergies, or anyone who relies on accurate ingredient information.
I will not be returning, and neither will the friends who have eaten here with me.
we spent $56 on toast & 1 sandwich & 2 drinks…
so to me it was expensive for no reason.
the toast was soggy, & it just had blue berry jam. i was lowkey expecting fresh fruit at least. i dont think 3 pieces of toast & blueberry jam is worth $16. another thing, i got the lemonade with strawberry & maybe it’s just me; but i personally did not like it. it tasted like it had something else mixed in that was not disclosed. like some type of herb; ruined the taste.
sorry but we will not be coming back. also we really had no service given to us, we had to get up several times to get things.
