Jeff Ananson Great place! I had to do a deep dive on this, because I was sure you were thinking of a different name in Bernardsville.

Visited today with my mom and we left extremely satisfied! We ordered two burgers and two appetizers: clam strips (normal menu) and wings (daily special)

Burgers – Very juicy and tasty, thick half pound patties. Cheese was suitably melted, I added mushrooms to mine and they were nicely cooked as well. The fries were pretty lacking in salt, but that’s nothing a little ketchup can’t fix 🙂

Clam strips – Same idea as fried calamari, but with clam meat instead. Slightly different flavor but mostly the same thing, I liked it.

Wings – These were insanely flavorful and should go on the normal menu!! Juicy on the inside, crispy on the outside, and an incredible dry rub made from garlic and parmesan. I am a sucker for naked wings because I don’t like any sauces so this was perfect for me!!!

Service and atmosphere – Very chill and casual bar&grill environment, our server was attentive and frequently checked on us. I got a refill on my iced tea after the burgers came.

Price – We spent $87 after tip. That’s what happens when you load up on appetizers 🙂

Cozy, mellow neighborhood pub. Typical bar food, with a few classy dishes on the menu. Bar food is great, however, at times it may be slightly undercooked. For example, the mozzarella triangles and steak fries were not crispy, but oil-soggy-like. Simply alert them to crisp your items (if preferred) when ordering. Chicken picatta and mash were excellent.

Nice selection of wines by the glass. About 8 beers on tap; 2 are generally IPA variations. Classic liquors at bar.

Do your best to avoid the table by the restrooms entrance. Trust me.

This is a great, somewhat “old school” spot. They do a very good job, we have been frequenting for decades. While I sometimes miss the “old place”, we admire how they have evolved as they have made some great additions.

Experience – the atmosphere is classic, with a great bar.

Service – the service at the bar is good and the service in the dining room is outstanding. The long-tenured servers are responsive and kind guys.

Food – The food is excellent. Some great dishes (spinach salad with blackened chicken). Pretty good wings and great burgers.

Overall, the value is good.

Feedback

In recent years, I have observed a change in the bar patron mix especially later on into the evening. The risk is that the bar devolves into a hard-drinking place similar to a now closed bar in an adjacent town.

Cajon chicken isn’t spicy. No gluten free subs. Burger was pretty good! Enjoyed lunch for sure!

I’ve been going to CA on & off for the last 15-20 years. Hadn’t been there in 3yrs & decided to stop in. Same good quality burger stacked amply with glistening bacon. One concern I had was with the Men’s bathroom. It appears they’ve gone back to the 18th century with the locking mechanism for the door. Hook & eye latches are for barns not bathrooms.

Great bar and comfort food. They hosted us in the side room for a reunion and did an outstanding job!

Old-time neighborhood Tavern. Convivial, relaxed, good pub-grub (a real pub…not another pretentious ‘gastro’-pub). Clean beer lines, a healthy ‘pour’ from the bartenders and friendly service

Based on the reviews I wondering if I was in the right spot. My experience was completely different. We sat ourselves in the back corner, we were told just sit anywhere. We were bombarded with flies the moment our food cane out. My daughter’s meal was ruined almost immediately by Flies landing on it. We put up a gallant fight keeping the flies off my Granddaughter’s food. I luckily made it safely eating the blandiest wings I ever had. Had to ask for some hot sauce to give them some life. My drumsticks were little chunks of chicken that had been cut in halve. Totally Lane, the pasta fagoli soup was flavorless too. The service was nearly non existent as nobody came to check on us until we were able to flag someone down. They did take the unbeaten salad off the bill. It was not as great a place like others reviewed far from it. My feelings is without the flies, the food & service is mediocre at the best.

The food was terrible. Chicken was stale, no taste. No flavor on Cajun wrap. Chicken finger is ancient finger. Do not recommend this restaurant
