Disappointed! Came here with friends hoping to find another go-to place in the area. Unfortunately not coming back. Took a very long time for food to come out and there were only 3 other tables full in the dining room. Clam chowder was very liquid more like clam soup. Moosehead stew was not a stew- also very liquid, again more like soup – see pic. Lobster grilled cheese & smoked tomato soup -“Hunker down with a lot of brioche” hardly the case – see pic. Soup was tasty but grilled cheese was bland and was placed on a plate, no garnish of any kind. Note to chef – people eat with their eyes too.
Lobster roll came on a soggy hot dog bun.
Sugared plum and goat cheese salad sadly had some sort of very sweet plum jam on the side of lackluster greens with powdered walnuts? Suggestion – fresh plums maybe roasted and cubed and how about walnut pieces, not meal.
Where was the duck fat home fries on the clam po’boy? Came out like any other frozen to frier fries at other places. Menu is appealing but execution is lacking. Only 1 server taking care of all the tables was pleasant and attentive.

— The Worst Lobster Roll I’ve Ever Had
If you want the worst lobster roll of your life, The Main Café is for you. At first glance, there was barely any lobster meat, and the roll wasn’t even toasted. When I picked it up, it was so soggy I could barely hold it together. One bite was all I could manage — it tasted like a dead, rotting fish. The lobster was chewy and had an off smell. And this was after waiting two hours for our food.
I wasn’t alone — I was there with my women’s group, and everyone had a bad experience. The woman next to me got her dinner 30 minutes before I did — a so-called “homemade pasta” bolognese that was so thick and rubbery it looked like large intestines. She had to send it back. Another woman canceled her order after waiting over two hours with no food (probably the best decision of the night). The salads were sad and unappetizing, and the chicken parm was “okay” — likely only because it came with boxed pasta instead of their “homemade” version.
Our waitress, poor thing, was doing her best but was clearly overwhelmed — she was the only one working the entire front of house. I even told her she should find another job, because I honestly can’t see this restaurant surviving much longer.
(Photos attached: soggy, smelly lobster roll and the table still waiting after two hours.)

Hands down the best lobster roll I’ve ever had-over flowing with sweet Maine lobster. The whole belly clams were golden (secret recipe) crispy and tender from Ipswich, MA. The steamers tasted like ocean in the best possible way.over-the-top seafood love! This is Maine on a plate. Hannah our server was wonderful! Very attentive

Love this place! My husband and I stopped here for lunch today and were very impressed. The waitress brought out 2 pieces of freshly made lavender lemon bread, and it was unbelievably tasty. I ordered the lobster tacos, and my husband ordered the lobster roll. We were both very happy with our food. Also, the atmosphere is very welcoming and everything is home-made. We’ll be back!

The Maine Cafe is an absolute gem!! From the moment you walk in the atmosphere is warm, inviting and full of charm. The staff is incredibly friendly, attentive and genuinely passionate about making every visit memorable.
The food is phenomenal- fresh, flavorful and beautifully presented. Every dish showcases quality ingredients and a true love for great Maine inspired cuisine. I especially loved the lobster roll and the lobster stew, which were cooked perfectly and bursting with flavor.
Whether stopping by for casual lunch, a hearty dinner or a quick bite, the Maine Cafe never disappoints. I can’t recommend this place highly enough- its the perfect spot for food lovers and anyone looking for a welcoming, top notch dining experience!

Much needed fare here, but the prices are outrageous. $32 for a clam poboy, $39 for a lobster roll? Whole belly clams are hard to get, I realize, as is fresh lobster meat, so, I wish you luck, but the menu prices will kill your business. Shrimp tacos are reasonably priced and tasty.

This café alone is a reason to travel to Hilton Head.
We stopped in while traveling and expected a simple coffee stop, but it turned into one of the highlights of our trip. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, the energy feels calm and intentional, and everything is clearly made with care.
We also had the best breakfast — perfectly fluffy eggs and the most wonderful lemon lavender bread that we’re still thinking about. Every bite felt thoughtful and fresh, not rushed or ordinary.
You can tell this café is run with heart. It’s the kind of place that makes you want to slow down, sit a little longer, and truly enjoy the moment.
Honestly, we would travel back to Hilton Head just to come here again. If you’re visiting or even nearby, this café is absolutely worth going out of your way for.

The lobster rolls are good, but the bread was not toasted and small portion for the price ($32). I would suggest ordering a starter so not to leave hungry. The cucumber salad was great!

First time at Main Cafe. Loved the decor! The lobster full entree was delicious with all the extras. Plenty of other choices to choose if you don’t want lobster. The staff was very friendly.
