Highway 27 Smokehouse Barbecue is a fantastic place to eat if you’re looking for real, quality barbecue. The BBQ is absolutely amazing, and the chicken wings are some of the best I’ve had. There’s a great variety on the menu, so there’s something for everyone no matter what you’re in the mood for.
The atmosphere is laid-back and welcoming, making it an easy place to sit down, relax, and enjoy a good meal. On top of that, the owner is a genuinely great guy who takes the time to talk with customers and make you feel appreciated.
Definitely a spot worth stopping at — highly recommend!

I recently had a business meeting at Highway 27 Smokehouse Barbecue, and the experience was outstanding from both a food and professional standpoint. The barbecue is excellent, the chicken wings are fantastic, and the menu has a great variety that makes it easy to satisfy everyone at the table.
What really set this visit apart, though, was the atmosphere and the people. The environment is relaxed and welcoming, which made it a perfect place to have meaningful conversation without feeling rushed or crowded. During our visit, the owner took time to sit down with us and share some of his business journey and experiences. As a fellow business owner, that personal connection and willingness to engage meant a lot.
It’s clear this isn’t just a restaurant — it’s a place built on relationships, community, and pride in what they do. If you’re looking for great food and a great place to meet, connect, or even hold a casual business meeting, I highly recommend Highway 27 Smokehouse Barbecue.

My husband and I were craving some Southern comfort food and decided to try somewhere new—Hwy 27 Smoked House BBQ came up in our search, and we’re so glad it did! Conveniently located right off the highway with free parking in the adjacent lot, this small, cozy spot is perfect for an intimate meal or even a small gathering. The décor is fun, the space is clean and well-lit, and the atmosphere feels warm and welcoming.

From the moment we walked in, we were greeted kindly and given time to browse the menu. We seated ourselves and were served within about 20 minutes. We walked in without reservations, on a Saturday aft/evening.

My husband ordered the Double Fist Burger, which he absolutely loved—juicy, fresh, delicious, and truly a two-handed burger! He enjoyed the Sazon rice as a milder alternative to red beans and rice, though he mentioned he would’ve ordered the burger a bit more well-done if asked (he’s a well-done guy; I’m a medium girl!).

I had the Pringletown Memphis Spaghetti, and it was fantastic. It brought back childhood memories of pasta goulash but with an elevated smoky twist, thanks to the flavorful pulled pork. Every bite was packed with fresh ingredients, and the portion was generous enough that I happily brought leftovers home.

They also have a cooler stocked with fun beverages—I enjoyed a Guaraná Brazilian soda, and my husband loved his sweet tea.

We loved that the two lovely ladies working there, took the time to come out and share some friendly banter. Things like that make you feel welcomed and valued as a customer. Human connection goes a long way! Thank you, ladies. 🙂

Overall, Hwy 27 Smoked House BBQ offers great food, friendly service, and a cozy atmosphere. They also provide catering and small-party reservations. We’ll definitely be back!

Came on a whim after work in North Charleston. Totally worth the drive. The great thing is they have quite a bit of different items in the menu than you find at the traditional BBQ joints. I’ve never had a fried rib before. I didn’t know what I was missing. It was so good. Crisp on the outside, super tender on the inside. With a light dressing of hot/spicy sauce. The BBQ spaghetti is really good, as well. I’ve never had anything like it
The staff is very friendly and personable. . I live on Johns Island and would definitely make the trip back up. As a matter of fact the table next to me had driven it from John’s Island as well. Well worth the trip from anywhere around Charleston.

We shared a plate that included brisket, ribs, sweet potato fries, mac & cheese and potato salad. Tried to decide which I would mention as outstanding but it was all amazing! The mac and cheese was the best I have ever had, made with goat cheese. My husband though the brisket was really good. What was also worth mentioning was the chef coming out and welcoming us to “his house”. So, so glad we found this place!

After exploring the boardwalk at Francis Beidler Forest, we were looking for a quick bite, and this little restaurant was the perfect stop!
The menu offered a fantastic variety of flavors for our family. The pulled pork was tender and smoky, the ribs were fall-off-the-bone goodness, even the classic cheeseburger hit the spot and the shrimp tacos were very flavorful.

We love exploring food in Charleston, and I feel sad that it took so long to find them. I wish they were in a better location. I could easily say it was one of the best BBQ we had in CHS. I hope to go back there soon. They are local and they are good!

I’m from Texas and this place was 45 minutes out of the way off 95 in an RV. Well worth the detour. I think the salt could have been cut back on the hush puppies and okra. Overall, both were fried fresh and didn’t need sauce. Brisket tacos were good even though the only ingredients consisted of flour tortillas sliced brisket and onions. “Simple”

The slliced brisket was actually really good even though there was a little smoke ring, but cooked perfectly. The flavors were all there. Sweet potato fries were crunchy and with a sauce.

I like that this place actually uses real silverware instead of cheap cafeteria silverware, especially when it comes to barbecue. With that said, I never needed a knife to cut my brisket because it was cooked perfectly.

I like that the owner came out and asked how everything was and tasted. I probably would have given this restaurant a 5 out of 5 if the hush puppies and okra were a little less salty. The potato salad was on point and the portions were a great bang for your buck.

If you order an appetizer and two meals at any other place, this meal would have cost well over $60 bucks especially for brisket these days.

Hats off to the owner and staff.

WOW — Absolutely Incredible! I was craving Nashville Hot Chicken and searched around Summerville when Hwy 27 BBQ Smokehouse popped up. It’s not technically Summerville, but it’s just off I-26 at Exit 187—and from Knightsville, it’s actually quicker and easier than driving into town.

The food? Next level: Nashville Hot Ribs — unreal and so unique.
Pulled pork — tender, smoky, and packed with flavor. Wings — completely off the hook and the best I’ve had in this area.

Everything we tried was outstanding. On top of that, the owners are veterans, incredibly friendly, and clearly care about what they’re serving.

Absolute must-try and belong worth the trip.
