The food wasn’t expensive, and it came really fast!! The restaurant is also clean and the service is good. However, the broth wasn’t super flavorful, and I added a lot of chilli sauce just for flavor. This is a good option if you’re looking for a quick bite.

Little hole in the wall, serving quality Vietnamese food. Portions were large, service was quick, flavor was good, prices were reasonable. Seating was a bit tight.

I was on the hunt for some pho with the NYC windy weather. It was close by and didn’t know what to expect. Popped in, they took my order. It is very small so only like 10 seats from memory. I saw a solo diner so maybe a mix of locals for quick dinner and tourists getting some warmth. The pho broth wasn’t what I was used to, it was on the sweeter side but when I added the chili it was 10 times better. Took it back to hotel and it was still steaming hot so it travelled very well! Good portion and good amount of chicken. The pork spring rolls were good as well.

Good food, simple set up. They have gluten free options (spring rolls and pho) which were good. This place will enter my rotation of good cheap eats when in a rush. The service was very fast and the food came to us very quickly.

If you’re craving authentic Vietnamese flavors in the heart of Midtown Manhattan, look no further than Pho 39 on West 39th Street. Tucked away in a compact spot that’s perfect for a quick lunch or cozy dinner, this hidden gem delivers big on taste without the fuss. I stumbled upon it during a busy workday, drawn in by the aromatic steam wafting out the door and the line of locals queuing up—always a good sign!

The atmosphere is no-frills but charming: limited seating keeps things intimate, and the service is lightning-fast and friendly, even during peak hours. The server was attentive, offering spot-on recommendations, It’s the kind of place where you feel like a regular on your first visit.

Now, onto the star of the show: I ordered the Fried Catfish Pho, and oh man, it was absolutely amazing! The broth was rich and fragrant, simmered to perfection with layers of star anise, ginger, and herbs that hit that perfect balance of savory and subtle spice. The catfish fillets were fried to a golden crisp on the outside while staying tender and flaky inside—no greasiness here, just pure flavor that soaked up the broth like a dream. Paired with fresh rice noodles, a heap of bean sprouts, basil, lime, and jalapeños on the side, every bite was a textural adventure. It’s not your traditional pho, but this fusion twist elevates it to something special—crunchy, comforting, and utterly addictive. At $16, it’s a steal for the portion size, which left me satisfied but not stuffed.

Pho 39 isn’t just food; it’s a flavor explosion that transports you straight to the streets of Hanoi with a New York edge. Whether you’re a pho fanatic or a newbie, do yourself a favor and stop by. 5 stars all the way—I’ll be back soon for round two!

Service was really BAD and affected the whole dining experience. One of the people in the cash register/assigning seats to customers was really rude. She was only nice while paying

The banh mi was okay, we got the special combo, bread was soft with generous fillings. The quality of the ham was worth what you paid for. For the pho, we got beef ball pho. It was a big serving, lots of soup, but less meat and noodles. Noodles were cooked well. If you like Broth that doesn’t have strong taste, this will be good enough

For the atmosphere, the place was too small. Had about 8 small tables for 1-2 people. Place looks always busy. We arrived at 2pm and the place still had a line. Turn over of customers and waiting for orders are fast so we waited for under 15 minutes. I probably wouldn’t dine in this restaurant again, but would still consider doing pick up or delivery on a rainy day when I’m in the area.

I’ve always had a great experience here. The duck spring rolls and pho with flank and brisket is my go to order and it never disappoints. Staff is really friendly too. The space is cozy but I’m usually able to find a spot to sit.
