Food was excellent and vegan items were clearly marked!
The samosa appetizer was one of the best we’ve had- they were huge!
Flavors were excellent.
Great dining room vibe- loved the style and colors.
We would be going back often but we visited from out of state.
P.S.
We did wait a really long time for our food but it was worth it. Reading other reviews, we get the impression that they’re running on a skeleton crew. Keep that in mind if you go and don’t let it deter you. Rather, use the time to visit with your dining companions!!
The portions were quite small, and varied significantly between dishes. Spice level was borderline intolerable (ordered a medium, as I always do, and it was so hot I was sweating). Food itself was… fine; you’re better off following a recipe and making it yourself at home. Three of us spent a total of $80 before tip, and we got one entre per person, two orders of naan, two waters and, a Coke. Food also took almost an hour to get out to us, and by the time the last of our party was served, the first served was almost done eating.
I’d suggest checking out other Indian restaurants in the area, or learn to make your favorite dish at home. Don’t let this restaurant put you off of the cuisine! However, this restaurant is not safe to eat at, and even if it was, it’s not worth the time or money.
The two of us ordered the most basic of dishes that should have been simple. I really don’t know what went wrong in the kitchen. We started with samosas that actually tasted very strongly of black pepper and very little else. Two orders of naan arrived and it looked like it had been reheated or something. It was tough and one order was very dark on one side, but both orders were very tough and dense more like naan you’d buy in the grocery store and heat up at home. We both had chicken tikka masala at different spice levels. There wasn’t much chicken or sauce for that matter. The sauce wasn’t rich, thick and flavorful at all. But the rice met expectations.
I ate at Aroma Circuit multiple times when it was located at the hotel. I recall those meals were quite delicious and well prepared. I had good experiences there. I certainly expected a restaurant space to deliver a superior quality meal, but I would have given 5 stars for equal to my previous experience plus the improved ambience.
Hopefully this was just a bad day. Norfolk needs a good Indian restaurant and they have lots of positive reviews that say people should give them a try.
Last time we went in, we were sat, and then waited 45 minutes before we even had our drink order taken. The waitresses are very nice, but there seems to be a lack of communication about who is taking care of what table, or they are not being told when they have a table. It’s a very disappointing experience when you come in with family and you spend almost your entire evening there just to eat supper.
Also, if you are sat near the back of the restaurant, it’s very dark. A bit of extra light would be nice, but it can be difficult to read the menu in such a low-light environment.
It does feel a little overpriced for the portion size, but overall it’s a great experience.
