If you’re looking for a 100% plant based Vegan menu, look no further and head on over to the Vertical Diner. Located near the intersection of SW Capitol Hill Rd and SW Barbur Blvd is this little gem serving a local take of vegan breakfast and lunch options. Add that to the great service and the classic diner feel to the place and it makes for a laid back, no rush kinda eating experience. So, if you’re ever in the area and looking for a great Vegan breakfast, give this place a try and don’t forget to support local and small businesses in your area!

I just ate at Vertical Diner today and it was excellent. It’s an all-vegan diner with a really solid menu selection, and everything I tried was genuinely delicious.

The portions were generous, the food came out quickly, and the pricing felt very fair for the quality and amount of food. Our waitress was extremely kind and attentive, which made the whole experience even better.

The space itself is really cool too. It has that classic old-school diner feel with big windows and globe lighting that makes it comfortable and inviting.

Great food, great service, great atmosphere. Highly recommend.

I got the California Burrito and although the flavor was pretty decent, it was absurdly small (see photo). I can almost guarantee that your smart phone is longer than this burrito, and your smart phone should not be longer than a burrito from a restaurant. For reference, it was not much bigger than a small frozen burrito you can buy at the grocery store for like $4. Yes, it had a side of fries, but Jesus Christ, $17 for this tiny thing?! Any other vegan burrito that I’ve had around Portland is so big it’s basically two meals. This one? Half a meal and now I’m typing this while hungry. Will not be back. What a bummer.

The food was incredibly tasty. The biscuit sandwich with the tofu scramble was delicious. The plant based chicken alternative was incredibly tasty.

I am not a vegan/vegetarian, but I appreciate exploring the many vegetarian options the Portland metro has to offer. This one will remain high on my list. At no point did I miss meat.

I highly recommend this place for a vegan diner experience.

The cherry on top was the service was kind and rapid.

This place is amazing ! I got the early bird sandwich with the fennel sausage and a side of tempeh bacon that blew my mind. I got the assam tea which was loose leaf and so delicious, and the sweet server topped up my hot water every time she came by. They even make their own ketchup and hot sauce in house !

The space is so cute and cozy and the food was truly incredible.

Had a large reservation here recently for a birthday event and it was a very pleasant experience. The staff were extremely helpful in figuring out payment, were super accommodating, and made sure we all had a great experience. Appetizers for the table came by pretty quickly.

I’ve also been here a couple times in the past and really love the diner. The hot chocolate is AMAZING with whipped cream, and all the salad are so filling and tasty. Thank you for a wonderful experience! Greatly recommend Vertical Diner!

This place is amazing! We went twice in 3 days! Not only is it an old diner (with a working jukebox!!), the food and service are great as well! The first time we had reubeun, dude cakes, mac and cheese and a chocolate shake. The dude cakes were unique, savory and enjoyable. The Mac and cheese was light on the cheese, which is how I prefer. The second time we had avalanche, tiger tenders, fries, coffee and chocolate shake. Everything was great! The fries are some of the best fries I’ve ever had. My husband said avalanche was very tasty and some of the best tofu scramble he’s ever had. Also, no gross oils and such used in the cooking! No step to enter. Small stalls with grab bars in gendered restroom.

Fun 70s diner vibes and great vegan food. Had the Joaquin Phoenix burger with a side of mashed potatoes and gravy which was delicious. The shakes were amazing! I’m definitely going back for breakfast.

My wife and I went here for dinner. I had the soyrizo tacos and she had the Rueben. We shared a plate of nachos. All of the food was decent. Our favorite was the nachos. They were smokey and meaty despite being vegan. The jackfruit was a great ingredient idea. My wife said that her sandwich was good. Her side of fries were not crisp, but she said she preferred them that way and liked them. My tacos were a bit boring, but tasty. They were almost entirely soyrizo filling without any toppings, which made them kinda’ mushy and one-note. This place had a real “late-night-after-the-bar” kind of vibe. It’s unfortunate it’s only open till 9pm, because it would be fun to come here with a group of folks late at night and eat/sober up. We’ll be going back for sure to try some of their other dishes, because so much stuff on the menu looked tasty.
