The Platypus is a great bar & live music venue. The cocktails are cleverly put together and distinctly unique. They have a great selection of local and domestic beers. There is food available with some vegetarian options. The bar is broken into 3 parts. A bar side with DJ’s a lounge side with pinball and a venue in the back. The venue is professionally run with a good PA and sound engineer. Shows run on time. Space is limited but has a really good vibe when full of people. We love the Platypus and would consider recommending this venue to any small touring band passing through StLouis. Parking is limited but manageable. Platypus is a safe place for all.

Another great destination in the Grove! The mural outside of their building is beautiful. The space is eclectic with 3 separate places to eat, including a patio. We chose to hang out inside and enjoy some Chooch’s chicken nuggets and fries. I really could’ve shared the fries since they were so large. I prefer skinny fries myself, but the chicken was fantastic! I opted for the small chicken and it was plenty. The sauces were fresh too; I loved the ranch. The staff came out and talked with us and were genuinely curious about our opinions on the food. We even talked about our favorites in St. Louis. I recommend this fun spot with your friends!

It’s cheaper to drink beer than the non-alcoholic options or at least the $4 day drinking lager they have on tap. I had three of those along with some fried tofu, fries and chicken bites. Midwest Dani is one of the incredible bar tenders working here but she alone makes this place worth visiting again and again. They do live music their bathrooms are colorful. One employee was wearing a Tyrese Halliburton shirt and Baltimore Orioles hat. I attempted to talk hoops with him but he wasn’t too friendly. Better to talk with Danielle instead.

Atmosphere is fine, food is great, bartenders are amazing, The people who run Karaoke here on Mondays are absolutely terrible at it. Worst in the City. There are better options on a Monday, or anywhere in the city for Karaoke.

This is a place you have to experience for yourself! The artwork, stickers, funky decor, & arcade games are so fun! The stage is really nice, with a window overlooking the Grove sign. (Profesional lighting & sound engineer onsite.) The staff here take the cake though, everyone was extremely nice & go above and beyond!
My personal favorite is the Eat Duck Bill restaurant located inside. They have CELIAC SAFE wonderful gluten-free food options that are delicious! They also served the gluten-free food on a separate tray when bringing out the dishes. I could eat here everyday. (Great vegan options as well.)

Experience was pleasant, and I enjoyed that their food space was vegetarian. The cauliflower is not specifically to my taste. But the fries and sweet chili sauce really hit the spot.
Having two different spaces set up in different ways varied the vibe. Their third space was reserved for private event.
Off in the smaller side room I enjoy the experience more when the large speaker overhead was off. However I also understand that’s part of what some people are looking for in the atmosphere

The platypus as a restaurant is like the platypus as an animal…an eclectic collection of parts that shouldn’t go together but work so well. Nestled in the Grove is the most approachable cocktail bar with great bartenders. Surrounded by touch tunes in the early hours and djs later in the evening the music is always popping from country western classics, 90’s hip hop, and a splash of EDM. If you’re looking for a spot where you can consistently go for a great drink but never have the same experience twice, this is your jam

We tried almost everything on the menu! Popcorn chicken, Brussels sprouts, fried tofu, and fries. Also all of the sauces!!! Listen, if you’re looking for a casual and great food spot come here.
Just a heads up that the main bar strictly sells the cocktails and drinks, you’ll have to go to the other room to access the window to order food.
Do yourself a favor and get ALL of the sauces!
