Aquamarine Restaurant Kodiak: Great Food & Live Music for All

Reviews
I will say that the staff can be minimal at times so as long as you are willing to wait a little longer than the average time you are almost guaranteed to get a satisfying experience.
The pizza was very fresh and had a very homemade feel to it that you can really only get from a local restaurant. Its also New York style if you are into that!
The mashed potatoes were fluffy with the right amount of butter. The steak was juicy and had the right amount of tenderness which can be difficult depending on a variety of factors.
The pesto pasta is a must try in my opinion. The pesto sauce is the real deal! No matter what your protein choice is (I ate mines with chicken) me and my wife have a hard time not picking that anytime we come here.
While I did not try the banana spilt desert myself, my wife still had the desire to try that out after everything and by her response to it, it’s worth a try if you are into that!
This was all complimented by our awesome server who made sure to take our orders promptly, made sure everything was accurate, & checked in with us regularly. In my honest opinion this is one of, if not one of the best places to eat at here in town. A must try for anybody who is visiting here as a tourist/guest!
A bonus note: I love the design of the restaurant and the selection of music that typically plays when we dine here.
Family & friends who live here, but wanted to give it a try because the menu looked good. It is very extensive with a huge variety of options (including vegetarian).
I had not seen more than one server on any visit, so they always had their hands full doing many different things. Every time it took at least 5 minutes to receive a menu and another 10 to be greeted for drink orders.
The breakfast was good, nothing special but considering there aren’t a lot of breakfast options on Kodiak it was nice, although they don’t open until 11. Because the server was so busy, even with only 3 tables, it took around 10 minutes for her to come back to our table after receiving our food. This was frustrating as we needed additional items in order to start eating. She was very nice, but we were not her focus.
The next visit, Nation was our server and he was exceptional. Very friendly, polite, helpful, and knowledgeable.
They were out of a LOT of items. They said the jet was late with ingredients, was understandable, but with that many items missing it would have been nice if they provided a list so we knew what we were able to order. A few items he wasn’t aware that they were out of until at least 10 minutes after placing our order. And it wasn’t busy so running out wasn’t the issue, just lack of communication to the servers. For ex, he told us they were out of onion rings but another table was told by someone else that they did have onion rings.
The gyro platter was delicious & a very large portion that I ate as a meal. They were out of turkey for the turkey panini, but replaced it with roast beef which was very good. The side salads were pretty large & tasty for a side, although the menu did not specify what all came with it, so we all had to pick out the ingredients we didn’t want. (Olives don’t normally come on a side salad so this would have been helpful to know).
The Chicken Parmesan didn’t have much sauce, but the bread was very good. Unfortunately Nation’s shift was over after receiving our food (he kindly let us know & introduced us to our new server) but the next male server did not ever come to our table & after waiting 20 minutes we had to go up to the bar to ask to pay & leave.
We came in later that evening after seeing the dessert menu that looked really good. There were many items on the menu & many more on the large chalkboard display. After waiting 15 minutes for the menu & the server to come back to take our order, we found out that the chalkboard menu is not accurate and they were out of everything besides vanilla ice cream and Greek donuts. Unsure if this was due to the plane delay, but our server said they don’t even serve the items on the board anymore & that she should probably take that down. This was another frustrating thing to hear after waiting so long to be greeted, told they don’t have any dessert & have been knowingly misleading their customers with an incorrect menu. We left, because we really wanted the brownie and crepes.
It is understandable that the food is pretty pricey, considering everything has to be flown in, but some items were unreasonable. Like $30 “gourmet” mac & cheese that had nothing except for pasta and cheese.
Overall the food is excellent but the way the business is run is not. Understaffing, overworking employees, not being transparent or updating menus, outdated furniture with uncomfortable booths sagging into the wood, & lack of communication don’t make up for the food quality. On top of that, the way the business owner responds to poor reviews & blames everyone except herself for her customer’s complaints, is a huge red flag. I hate to support unreasonable, immature, and unaccountable business owners. Unfortunately, my friends and family who no longer eat here were valid in their reasonings.
Update after owner’s response: It is not your customers’ responsibility to inform you of issues you already know. The same complaints have been made in many reviews for years now. Take some accountability
This is not a fake review, I have no personal vendetta with a server, and I have not done a review on trip advisor. This might have been a bad day or time for the restaurant, but our food and service were awful.
Perfect staff, clean environment. The best chocolate shakes. The string cut fries served in a perfect portion.
Great location and parking.
Kodiak is a sight for your eyes on a Marina serving a memorable meal.
