In Burlington’s Old North End, the Wise Fool Takes a Seat

Years before chef Elliot Sion opened the Wise Fool in Burlington’s Old North End, he knew what he wanted to call his restaurant.

We arrive half an hour after opening on a Saturday night and the place was packed. You have to be patient for seats, but can enjoy a beverage from the bar which includes local beers, spirits, and sodas. Our family enjoyed the fries (spiced with a unique flavor) and garlic dipping sauce, mejadrah (Lebanese lentil pilaf) to start. For main course we had the chicken shawarma in a wrap, and beef kofta on top of fancy rice (chicken flavored rice). We closed out with the maple konafa; a single serving that could easily feed three. It was light with a slightly salty cheese covered with shredded buttery philo and maple drizzled.

Overall nice atmosphere, but be prepared for crowds and folks looking for seats at the bar, by the kitchen, windows, or picnic tables on the main floor. Staff was helpful and cooks did their best to get food out amid the crush of folks. Definitely will try ordering for pick up next time.

WOW. The second you walk into the wise fool the atmosphere is welcoming, warm and smells absolutely divine. The wings and kapsalon with cheese were cooked perfectly and tased outstanding. Definitely get yourself an order of their garlic sauce.. it is unreal. I got the beef kofta wrapped in laffa and although it was amazing, the beef was truly the star of the show. PERFECTLY cooked. Their prices are also more than reasonable. We will be back! TWF gets a 1000/10 from me!

Really stoked about this new shawarma place. As a native to this cuisine, my standards are pretty high. Thankfully, they did not disappoint. The atmosphere is great, the staff is friendly, and the fact that they’re open late is such a bonus.

Highly recommend popping in—just maybe don’t tell too many people. I’d like to avoid a line next time.

So cute in here !! Food is super flavorful and delicious, great vibes. We got the meal for two for 32$ and some cocktails. Came out to 68$ ish. Decent for two on a Saturday night! Will be coming back

I got the Shawarma chicken over “fancy rice” and a small hummus with a lafa and it was all right.
The chicken did not seem fresh (I showed up just after they opened and seeing how they’re closed on Tuesdays and I went there on a Wednesday. I don’t know how the chicken would be old) and was generally not super flavorful. Also, the serving size was all right, just don’t expect a ton of food tho.
The lafa was pretty soft and could definitely use more time on the grill and the hummus was fine but the olive oil to hummus ratio was a little crazy.
I got a side container of zhug and it was tasty

The part I liked the most was the bottle of ‘savouré’. I have never seen this product before but it was quite tasty. I got the cherry, fennel, apple flavor soda.

I don’t see myself going back, but maybe if you get some of the other options, you may have a better experience

I’m being picky but for a place that considers itself to be middle eastern I’m not sure where they get off
I would rate this place a three out of five stars, but I also don’t think I’ve had enough experience there to give it a fair rating. Also, the place is new and hopefully they will improve.

Thrilled to have Wise Fool in the neighborhood! It’s become a regular in our rotation and is consistently delicious. Takeout is a great option but enjoying it freshly prepared while sitting at the bar is the best. Falafel and chicken shawarma are the star but the don’t skip the sides. Do yourself a favor and get the majedrah and the garlicky cucumbers!

This is exactly what the O.N.E. needed! The shawarma was perfect and the fries were so damn good. I had just worked a long shift and this was the perfect late night spot for some quick and delicious food. Do not miss out on this new addition to the Burlington food scene.

Rich flavors, large portions. Table turnover is fairly quick, but seating can be limited for a group larger than 2-3 people. Their main platters for 2 & 4 people are delicious, but HEAVY on the hot sauce. If you aren’t a regular hot sauce consumer be warned.

I’ve been twice now and I’ve had mixed experiences. The first time I got the falafel. For the price, I was pretty surprised how tiny the serving was and it didn’t taste great. The next time I went, I got the chicken shawarma wrap. This was pretty good! Although, it’s $15 + tax and tip and doesn’t include any sides or drink.

I would say about a 4.5, but Google is not great on nuance. The food is good, with a nice spice palette. The is some spice heat to this that usually lacking in Burlington food. My review would be higher but the food was served cool. It’s a cold night here and it was cold in the restaurant. I will go back to try it again. The price is good.
