Super fun place!! Way bigger than it looks! My wife and I went to see heavy heavy and was absolutely incredible! If you like loud as hell music this is the place, every time the base drum hit my organs moved a little lol. They don’t sell liquor but have a pretty good selection for bottled beer and some on tap. They also serve food and the prices were very reasonable. I highly recommend this place. There is also a pretty good amount of tables and chairs to sit which was very nice. Parking was awesome aswell they have a parking lot rite beside the place, you do have to pay for it though. I did find it odd they dont search for wepons and booze when you come in, just my opinion

Wonderful staff and ambience. Enjoyed the food and beer. The space for the show was imaginative and wonderfully layed out.

The smaller venue here makes for excellent concerts and live experience. The food was outstanding and the entire staff is friendly and energetic, much like the artists the feature. I hate that I discovered this place too late in my time in Charlottesville. I will definitely visit again next time I’m in town.

Listened to Vansire and Toledo Saturday night in this music hall. Mostly standing room, but a few tables and chairs if you get there a little early. The acoustics were excellent. Easy access to drinks while the shows were in progress. Loved the venue.

The Southern is my favorite venue in Charlottesville. The food passes the vibes. Food for all kinds of friends who want something green, something cheesy, something greasy or meaty. The music is always awesome. There’s a lot of places to watch the music whether you’re in the front of the stage or in the sides where its darker and out of the way. The Southern also has fantastic peanut butter cookies.

Great venue. The audio can get loud, hence if someone has sound sensitivity they can carry Barbuds.

The southern is usually one of the best places to listen to music and eat food, however this time was different. They were hosting a Emo event and it was busy. I stood in line and ordered my food, and was told it was a 25 minute wait which I didn’t mind. 40 minutes went by, and nothing. I went by and asked about the ETA, and was told that they had ran out of chicken and it would take longer.
It seemed that they were not prepared for the amount of people that were going to attend the event and I relented and sat back down. I noticed that there was food on the counter in the kitchen, and the staff would walk by it, catering to the line of people ordering drinks.
They had someone who wasn’t attending the counter, who was passing the tray of food, and would periodically go deliver food. After another 20 minutes I stood in line and when I got to the counter, I found out the food that was on the window was in fact mine. They gave me the food which had turned cold, and when If there was any way to get hot food, they told me to wait a minute and returned from the microwave and handed me food that was now semi cold, semi hot, and had no flavor at this point. They honestly need a new system in place to make sure people aren’t waiting and have to wait in line to get their food, because I was not the only one with this problem, and it’s a shame because their food is usually good. Maybe next time.

Great sounding room! Decent beers on tap, lots of canned drinks to choose from as well. Food will get you by.

TBH I have no idea if they serve food here, but if it’s anything close to the drinks, atmosphere, and service, it’s probably great. Huge fan of this venue. They pull in bands and musicians unlike any other venue in the central Virginia area. Former cvillian who makes several pilgrimages a year for various shows and to see friends. Love the Southern and only wish there was a comparable venue in Richmond.
