Not impressed. I was really looking forward to this place after hearing so much about it over the years. The service was excellent, and the ribeye was good—but not great. For a $37 steak, it only comes with one side unless you pay extra, which was disappointing.
We weren’t even asked if we wanted bread until we had been seated for quite a while. The area we sat in was extremely hot; our entire party was uncomfortable. The waitress handled it well and was very apologetic, but it made it hard to enjoy the meal.
The restroom wasn’t very clean, there were no paper towels, and the air dryer barely worked. My one side was a salad, which was good, but I would have preferred a potato with my steak—another $4 for a basic side just felt excessive.
Overall, for the price, I wasn’t impressed. For the same money, Outback would have been a much better and more comfortable experience. Sweating through dinner doesn’t make for a relaxing evening. Not recommended.

You walk in and can tell they used to be a great restaurant. First impression is somewhat stale and not updated. Bathrooms were extremely unappealing and dusty. Nice meeting room for large parties. Waiting staff was super friendly as they are family owned and operated. Food was actually good and would have received 4 starts except for the bathrooms and overall dated appearance. Background music was from the 50’s-60’s.

Lovely restaurant. If you need adult time in the bar area with a live band then this is your place. Plenty of tables for dining with family and friends Take out or dine in. The food is delicious. The wait staff is awesome. If you get a salad try the homemade thousand island dressing. Meeting the owners was great (She’s pictured)

I have been to Ippy’s multiple times. The phone never gets answered. When I arrive to place my order in person, because I’m unable to over the phone after repeated phone calls over numerous occasions, there is no one inside waiting to greet me. Majority of the time, I’m left standing in the foyer for 10 minutes waiting, while waitresses frantically rush pass me without acknowledging me. (To be fair, today, I was only waiting for a minute. However, that isn’t how it usually goes). I understand they’re short staffed as they have been for a very long time, so I understand they have a million things going on. When the takeout order is finished, every time I pay, the owner jips me on the change. I’ve bit my tongue the last 10 or so times even though I truly hate the way this businesses is ran. When I told the waitress of these issues, I was told I’m being shorted on the change because she is paying me in change herself from her own pocket. I told her that’s another problem and that I’d love to talk to the owner about that as well as employees should never have to pay out of their own pocket to complete a transaction for a customer. I told her to keep her money because I wasn’t going to take her money. She said as far as the phones not being answered is concerned, they’re short staffed and that I can order online. The staff are always wonderful but they are overwhelmed and these issues have been ongoing for a long time. 1) The phones should be answered promptly. 2) When the customer arrives, the customer should be acknowledged promptly. 3) The change should be exact but never shorted. I have no interest in walking around with a jingling reminder of how ineffectively and inefficiently this restaurant runs. The owner should never allow these 3 aforementioned points to occur. It is a shame because I am not the only one who has had the same experience. The “short staff” answer is not the customer’s problem and should not continuously affect the customer experience. Ippy’s may believe that they can’t afford to hire one more person to remain at the desk, ensuring great service from the time the phone rings or the customer enters. In reality, they can’t afford not to fix the problem. How many similar experiences are preventing repeat or expanded business? I have no interest in eating here because Ippy’s has no interest in providing the very basic service expected. Instead, the customer is made to feel subpar service is to be expected.

Date night with my wife. Played a couple games of pool. Food was great. Hadn’t been here in a while. Thanks for the great service and food. The love of my life is picky and she loved it. Thank You. My waitress was amazing. Took care of us while taking care of the whole bar.

Our first time eating here and it won’t be our last. Everything we got was so good! Our waiter Carson was great! The best spinach and artichoke dip I’ve ever eaten. The onion rings were so good and my husband said the hamburger was the best he’s ever eaten.

Food wise this is our new standard. We had yet to find a really good dining experience after moving into the area. The search is done. We all really liked the food and can’t wait to return.

Since moving part-time to the Moneta area, we have been visiting different restaurants, often with our new neighbors who have been here for several years. The past dinners have always been around the lake, but this time, we ventured to one of their favorites, Ippy’s in Rocky Mount.
Just a 25-minute ride from our homes, Ippy’s reminded me of restaurants we had dined in when we lived in NJ. A large hostess desk, a large bar behind doors to keep the noise from the dining room, an area that was split into spaces so it could have booths around the walls and some tables in the middle.
Our friend had mentioned their ribs several times, so there was no way my husband was going to order anything else. I went in thinking I was going to get Smothered Chicken only to hear, “I’ll have the Prime Rib,” come out of my mouth. But first, we ordered a couple of appetizers – Spare Rib app and Stuffed Mushrooms. The mushrooms were the biggest disappointment of the meal – button caps with barely a bit of crab.
Ted did order the ribs, and in his words, the ribs were not the best he ever had, but they were very good. They were tender and moist, and the sauce BBQ sauce (vinegar based) they used was tasty. My prime rib was a decent sized piece, maybe on the slightly thin side. We both had baked potatoes that, while not the huge size in steak houses, was a perfect serving. Our friends ordered Stuffed Grouper (it was stuffed with a whole crab cake!) and sirloin steak. The onion rings with the steak were fabulous. We all had side salads.
As with many service industry based business’s, Ippy’s has been having staffing shortages. Though we were immediately seated, our waitress, Tyler, was running ragged with a large party and several tables. She did a great job checking in and getting the few items we requested.
Ippy’s will be a restaurant we will return to. And next time, I will get the smothered chicken!

Food is always good, however, today lunch was served in the bar area. Loud and crowded and not a relaxing atmosphere at all. Is this a permanent change? If so it seems like a really bad idea.
