Oh goodness….I wouldn’t share this secret if we lived close by, for fear of not getting a table. This is undoubtedly the best Thai food outside of Thailand , we got dishes to take away and ate as much as possible. The staff are so lovely, everything is beautifully presented and authentic wonderful flavors of Thailand. Thank you Kai and birthday chef, and Steve for an amazing delicious evening Don’t forget to bring your own booze

Ordered Tom Yum Ghai(chicken) soup and Crispy Duck. Both dishes were excellent. The large bowl of soup was actually enough for 4 people. Duck had crispy edge and succulent meat. Really enjoyed my meal. My compliments to Khai and her staff.

Great tasting food. Pricing relatively reasonable. Ordered glass noodles that were not on the menu, Tom yum goong soup highly recommended.

I came after Mass to indulge in a takeaway. I feel that the litmus test of a good Thai restaurant is the Pad Thai dish and that is what I ordered.
I decided to go for the vegetarian option and the owner offered to add a fried egg to it to which I never say no when it comes to fried noodles.
Upon reaching home, the packing was in nice microwave safe container which I really appreciated. There was a nice sprinkling of crunched peanuts. Overall, it was delicious, but it wasn’t wow. The tofu served was the smoked tofu which was really good. The sauce didn’t have the complexity as I expect a Pad Thai sauce to be. Though sweet, I couldn’t taste the tartness which tamarind (a crucial ingredient for the sauce) imparted.
I was hoping for a more “smoky” flavour from a well fried plate of noodles in which we Asians call the “breath of the wok” but alas none of that was apparently.
I would give them another try with another dish next time.

If you’re looking for an unforgettable culinary experience, Kai Thai is an absolute must-visit! From the moment you walk in, you’re greeted by the warm and friendly Zandi, whose welcoming smile sets the tone for your entire visit.
Having visited Thailand last year, I can confidently say that the food at Kai Thai rivals – if not surpasses – the authentic dishes I enjoyed there. The flavors are bold, perfectly balanced, and every bite transports you straight to the bustling streets of Bangkok. Whether it’s their creamy green curry, flavorful Pad Thai, or aromatic Tom Yum soup, every dish is a masterpiece.
Kai Thai doesn’t just serve food; they deliver an experience. The combination of impeccable service, a cozy atmosphere, and extraordinary dishes makes it clear why this gem is a favorite for anyone who loves Thai cuisine. Don’t miss out – this is authentic Thai food at its finest, right in your backyard!

The best Thai food in Johannesburg—and possibly all of South Africa—has always been at Kai Thai. After they closed their doors, I tried several other Thai restaurants, but none came close. Imagine my delight when I discovered they reopened in December 2024! My family and I enjoyed the most sumptuous meal we’ve had in a long time. Thank you, Zandi and Steven, for remembering us and for your warm hospitality. And a special thanks to the chef for bringing joy back to our table. We’ll be back as often as we can!
