This is a little slice of wholesome with a heaping side of love. Ran by two older couple, so, be patient. Hand cut meats and cheeses with traditional and cultural addition sandwiches and meals. Some the most amazing, sweetest, and funniest customer service. House made sandwiches (huge and from 7 to 8 dollars) and desserts, authentic sausages (pork, viel, liverwurst, polish), with a collection of imports of sweets, pickled foods, and beer and wine. Best sandwiches in town!

The ambience of this deli feels so cozy like a grandma’s house. The staff is nice and so sweet. I have never been in a German food establishment before so I didn’t know what to expect but I was NOT disappointed. My sandwich was great. It was so much bigger than I expected! It was also very fresh. I will definitely come back and try another item on their menu.

I do not enjoy leaving negative reviews, but I feel compelled to share my experience.
My son and I were excited to try this place, as I’ve been craving authentic German food (German/Mexican bloodline). Unfortunately, from the moment we walked in, the woman behind the counter (owner, I presume) was curt and unwelcoming. Simple interactions were met with harsh tone and expressions, including being yelled at for taking a photo and later being shouted at, “You cannot leave!!!” when I was ordered to sign the credit card receipt.
I’ve never been spoken to that way at any service establishment. The contrast was especially noticeable since she was kind to the customer before us, which left me feeling uncomfortable and maybe similar sentiments writen by previous reviewer, which stated (racial profiling).
The food was delicious, but sadly, the service overshadowed the experience.
Sigh…

This little mom and pop German deli is a gem in Upland. This was my first visit and not only was the Ruben sandwich yummy but the authentic German atmosphere and music was delightful. Heads up–TAKE OUT only. The deli case has regular and veal brats, weinerschnitzel and other sandwich meats. Baked goods too. It’s a mini market featuring several German foods and products. Pastries were scrumptious. Reasonable prices too.
Definitely going back for schnitzel.
I recommend you give Upland German Deli try…it’s Great! Support small businesses.

I found this place online by chance while looking for deli sandwiches. I had called and ordered the chicken schnitzel sandwich and the Reuben sandwich. Upon arriving I went inside and was pleasantly surprised with the imported goods and the small selection they had. The owner was very kind and helpful. I decided to try their apple strudels pastry as well. As far as the pastry was concerned, it was very good and reminded me of the real deal from European bakeries abroad
The sandwiches were very good. Made on the spot and very flavorful. They were also reasonably priced too for the portion. It came with its side of pickles as well.
I plan on coming back here, and hope it lasts another 50 years in Upland.

If you haven’t been to Upland German Deli, you are truly missing out on one of the best hidden gems around! From the moment you walk in, you’ are greeted with enthusiasm and you truly feel like you’re in Germany. The owners are awesome, kind and extremely passionate about what they do—and it shows in every bite.
The food is nothing short of incredible. Authentic, flavorful, and made with love—every dish is a taste of Germany. Whether it’s the bratwurst, schnitzel, or one of their homemade sides or desserts, (the tarts and potato salad are amazing) everything is consistently fresh and delicious. You can tell they care deeply about quality and tradition.
But what truly sets this place apart is the heart behind it. The owners pour their soul into this deli, and it creates an experience that’s not just about food—it’s about community, culture, and connection.
Highly recommend to anyone looking for amazing German comfort food and the kind of service that leaves you smiling long after you leave. Thank you, Upland German Deli, for everything you do!

2022 is the year of trying places I always wondered about. This deli did not disappoint. Kristine Konefat and her partner were very hospitable and the food is fantastic. My friend and I ordered 2 specials and a sandwich to try things. Sauerbraten, Brunsweiger, Spetzle, cabbage rolls, warm potato salad, macaroni salad, a pickle and some pastries. All of it was so delicious. Our favorite was a tie between the Sauerbraten and Spetzle. Highly recommend for all locals.
