The chicken was unbelievably tender juicy, perfectly seasoned, and cooked with that kind of precision that tells you someone in the kitchen actually cares. Not dry. Not bland. Not drowning in sauce to hide mistakes. Just done right.
And the rice? Fluffy, fragrant, and full of flavor on its own not just a filler. Every bite balanced perfectly with the chicken. You could taste the freshness. You could taste the intention.
The portions were generous without being sloppy, the place was clean, and the staff made the whole experience even better. Friendly, efficient, and proud of what they’re serving as they should be.
It’s rare for something as simple as chicken and rice to be memorable. This was memorable. I’ll definitely be back.
I don’t usually write messages like this, especially about a place I actually enjoy. I order from JS Chicken often because it’s typically a good meal for a great price, and it consistently leaves my little family satisfied. I genuinely don’t mind spending my money when the quality matches what I’ve come to expect.
Unfortunately, today was not one of those days.
I ordered my usual: 30-piece strips, a couple scoops of rice, plain lo mein, and fries. When I opened the box of chicken, everything looked promising. Presentation-wise, it was giving “we care.”
Then we started eating.
The rice was soggy and completely lacking flavor — almost as if it had been sitting for hours reconsidering its life choices. The lo mein followed that same disappointing path: limp, bland, and forgettable. The chicken, which is normally the star of the show, wasn’t crispy at all. It tasted like it missed the fryer by a few critical minutes. And the fries? So over-salted they could preserve meat for the winter.
It honestly felt like this meal wasn’t made with care — or even basic attention.
What makes this more frustrating is that I tipped an extra $20. I don’t tip that way for bare minimum effort. I tip because I appreciate good food and hard work. Today’s order did not reflect either.
I’m not upset because of one imperfect meal — I’m upset because this was far below the standard you’ve set in the past. If this had been my first experience, it likely would have been my last.
I’d appreciate a response and a resolution that reflects the loyalty I’ve shown to your business.
Thank you for your time.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Sincerely,
A Very Disappointed (but Previously Loyal) Customer
Edited—-For your details. Not my first time eating there, my daughter and I have enjoyed the food at j’s previously. As you can look into my reviews, I am not one to leave many reviews. Only where I deem it necessary for attention to be brought to.
I ordered the crab ragoons. Fair, but no sauce provided.
Egg rolls, typical. I found a hard piece, assume a bone. Probably not made in house so can’t put that on you.
Orange chicken, soggy breading and no flavor. Fried rice side? It was steamed rice with soy sauce drizzled over it….
Sesame chicken, exact same comment as the orange chicken, soggy breading and no flavor. “Fried Rice” was the same.
Combination fried rice, paid for extra spicy…
Honestly was unsure of what I was eating, it was a greasy oil slick mess. Overcooked shrimp for the 4-5 pieces I could find. Was not spicy at all. The very pleasant lady at the front desk did give me extra spicy oil, however I didn’t want to add any more oil to the already oily dish.
Side lo mein noodles, probably the best tasting out of the bunch. However were all broken pieces.
Before you go all church on your response like you’ve done with all of the other reviews that you didn’t like, I cook for a living myself.
More importantly though, I read that they are helping keep kids fed while people go without SNAP benefits. I am proud to support a business that truly gives back to the community. Thank you J’s Chicken!
