Social Profile:

Okoze Sushi was started in 2003 by Chef Jason. We are 22 years old and still loved by locals as well as foodies. We are located in the heart of Russian Hill in San Francisco right next to Swensen’s Ice Cream. We are proud of our fish quality and hope you have a great experience with us.

Many kinds of sushi plus Japanese dishes like dumplings are served in a simple, wood-accented room.

Surprised by the high rating. Sushi was average at best and nowhere near worth $90 per person. None of the nigiri (blue fin tuna, amaebi, kanpachi, hotate) stood out – except the tamago, which was decent, as were the age dashi tofu and fried amaebi heads. Rolls were forgettable and overpriced at $27 each. The restaurant had a strong fishy smell, which didn’t help. Maybe passable for a casual weekday dinner if you live nearby, but absolutely not worth a detour. I won’t be returning. Casual attire.

Excellent quality sushi! I would definitely eat here again. Probably need to set aside some money for the meal as it can get pricey quickly. Definitely a spot for a 3rd/4th date. The staff are friendly and helpful. Arrive outside the busy eating hours for impromptu seating.

A wonderful evening at Okoze with Jason, doing a vast taster session for us organised by some amazing friends.
Some of the freshest ingredients I’ve ever tasted!
From crab, to tuna, to prawn, to scallop, to wagyu, to pickled plum and a wild array in between this was a fantastic evening and wonderful meal. A special shout out to the prawn tempura we started with, so crunchy but so light! Plus the wagyu that melted like butter!
Highly recommend a visit to Okoze for truly beautiful and tasty food.

The food here was amazing! Highly recommend. We came in for a late seating so it wasn’t overly busy.
The maki rolls were very unique and extremely delicious. Get the bluefin tuna sashimi, this is the best dish I’ve had at any sushi restaurant.

Delicious Japanese food in Russian Hill. Quality fresh fish shines bright in Okoze’s dishes. The Monk fish liver was real tasty and well prepared. If you know you know. The Hamachi kama was on point as well. It had a nice texture and was a good size. The seaweed salad was good and the shrimp tempura was a throw away dish. The meal wasn’t cheap but would I come back? Sure.

The atmosphere of the restaurant is very pleasant, but the service is slow and they take quite a long time to bring out the next dish. I always check the restrooms before dining, and unfortunately, the floor was dirty, which made it clear that a deep cleaning is not done regularly.

They offer a good variety of sushi, but the prices are high compared to the portion sizes. The rolls are cut very thin, and when we asked how many pieces were in each roll, the waitress repeatedly said, “This is a sushi place,” instead of giving us a clear answer — which felt dismissive and unprofessional.

What made the experience worse was that the waitress was rude and even argued with us because we did not leave a 30% tip, which felt very inappropriate.

Although the food tasted fine, I left still feeling hungry after spending about $90 per person on just two rolls. This feels like the kind of restaurant you visit once, mostly because the prices are too high for what you get and the service does not make you want to return.

I was so nicely surprised by their chef’s special rolls Would’ve given 5 stars if not for the price ($30+ for the roll is a bit much).

Just superb! Stop reading – go here. The sushi / sashimi was incredible, really high quality fish. We sat at the counter and the chefs engage as much (or as little) as you want. Atmosphere was also superb. It was busy but due to the acoustic dampening on the ceiling (nice touch guys!) it meant the sound volume wasn’t too much. Not noisy at all.

So expensive, it’s unjustifiable unless it’s a special occasion or you are filthy rich. Presentation 10/10. Fish and scallops tasted amazing. Expect to pay almost $100 per person and not be full.
