ORIGINAL: I went to Subway just now for lunch – 1:00pm on Thursday. No line so I walked up to the bread end of the bar, and noticed that all four employees on the clock were at the other end. Two were in back doing prep work, and two were in the front chatting. Totally get the chatting – that’s how it goes on slow days. They continued chatting as I waited.
I stood there looking at them for about thirty seconds (count that – it’s longer than you realize) without anyone so much as looking at me, much less greeting me. I actually had to say “I’m ready when you ladies are” just to get their attention, and when I did, not a word was said to me until the gal helping me had to ask – rudely, and without looking at me – what kind of sandwich I’d like. The shift manager who’d been working in the back prepping had come around to do the veggie side and also did nothing to improve the experience. The girl at the end who helped me at the register was friendly and efficient – no cheesy retail smile, just calm and friendly.
Please keep in mind that I’m posting this as someone with extensive experience in customer service – hosting, serving, training customer service reps, managing, supervising, high-tension problem resolution, etc. I totally understand bad days, but this is vastly different.
Overall this was a rough experience, and the only reason I felt so compelled to share it is that it’s becoming VERY common at this location. Customer service needs vast improvement, but the food is always tasty!
