The sushi was fresh, large rolls, no skimping on ingredients to cut costs. The service was fantastic and everything we ordered was delicious. This isn’t a carousel sushi restaurant so you have to order everything. We ordered thr amount we would get at a normal restaurant and because the rolls were so big we had so much extra to go. This is the best problem we could ever have !
If you want fantastic sushi, massive rolls that actually give you a ton of fish, shrimp and other sushi goodness and normal prices, go here!
This place immediately became our #1 spot for . We don’t want to go anywhere else!
First of all, the name of this place is different. It used to be just KC teriyaki. Now it is KC sushi and teriyaki. I placed my order online. Then I went to go pick it up. When I walked into the restaurant, I immediately noticed the wall decorations were different. There used to be some handwritten signs praising god. I believe it was a bible verse every day. Well, that’s not there anymore. I’m not a religious person, so I don’t miss it. But there were other handwritten signs as well that are no longer there. There used to be a pot of soup on the table. You can grab a small bowl and have some while you’re waiting for your order. That’s not there anymore, either.
The menu here is a little different than it was a year ago. For starters, they now have sushi. Kirkland, (costco) sushi to be exact. If sushi is not fresh, then I don’t want it. And I guess I should have known that kirkland sushi was pre made at costco. I ordered one sunrise roll.($13.95) Sushi rice does not interact well with cardboard. So by the time I got home, my sunrise roll was stuck to the bottom of the cardboard box that it was placed in. Maybe a small piece of wax paper would help in the future. As far as the taste was concerned, it tasted like any store bought sushi. It could have been from fred meyer or winco. I’m not a fan. But I struggled through a few pieces before I gave up. Please make sushi fresh, or go back to your old menu.
The appetizer platter looked legit! ($14.95) Everything on the appetizer platter was frozen, then cooked to order. Maybe they could have left the tempura shrimp in the fryer a little longer. But it all tasted ok, and it was filling. It came with 4 small egg rolls. 4 tempura shrimp. And 4 gyoza, on a bed of shredded cabbage. All this really needed was a cup of rice (and some sauce), and it could have been a meal. I also received a cup of some beef flavored asian inspired soup. I’m not sure if this was part of the appetizer platter or the entree. It doesn’t really seem to go with any part of this meal at all. Originally, I thought maybe it’s a teriyaki dipping sauce or something. But no, it’s just kind of a standalone item that doesn’t really fit with any portion of this meal. Maybe they put it in my bag by mistake. And speaking of dipping sauce, I got none.
The main course of teriyaki chicken with rice looks different today than it looked the last time I ordered teriyaki chicken from this restaurant. ($12.00) And yes, it tastes different also. You used to get a separate bowl with your salad inside. Two scoops of rice. And your teriyaki chicken with sauce drizzled on top. Now you get one scoop of rice. Your teriyaki chicken without sauce. And your salad is in the same container with these two hot items. Less rice and salad. And relatively the same amount of chicken.
The chicken has just a hint of teriyaki flavor. Like was marinated in teriyaki and then grilled. Having additional sauce would have pushed this meal up a few points. The rice was ok. And I ate the salad immediately after taking photos. It was already kind of warm and I don’t like cooked salad. The dressing they use is not as good as the stuff they used to use. I wonder if they buy it at costco too.
In fairness for this review, it’s been about a year and a half since I’ve eaten here. But I used to eat here at least twice a month. Also I ordered my food online at 7:30 PM. And they close at 8 PM on Sundays. My food was ready about five minutes before closing.
