I love coming across hidden gems in unassuming gas stations. I travel a lot for work, so I have come across a lifetime’s worth of different varieties of food joints in gas stations. Most are pretty terrible to average.
In the burger world, Shorts Top Burgers is by far the best one I’ve experienced. Don’t let the gas station’s aesthetics deter you. Walk in, grab an order slip and pen at the counter, and mark your order. Pay at the cashier, and wait. I promise, the wait will be worth it.
A super juicy burger cooked to perfection and covered with pepper jack cheese, fresh simple veggies to bring that crunch to every bite, and a sourdough bun that I highly recommend. This burger was enough for 2 people, and the fries & onion rings were perfectly crispy and seasoned just right.
A half pound bacon cheeseburger combo with onion rings, fries & a drink will run you $15 bucks out the door (Feb 2025). It’s not a complex burger, but, much like O.M.G Burger in Longview, they nail the basics PERFECTLY and throw in a few more options like different cheeses & bun selections. This is what makes this place my new overall favorite burger joint.
Do yourself a favor and stop in if you’re in town.

I happened to come at an extremely busy time, so I did have to wait about 25 minutes. It was absolutely worth it. The burger and fries were absolutely delicious and some of the best I’ve had. I nornally prefer smaller burgers and patties, but this burger was just so perfect. Absolutely worth the wait. Wish I didn’t live in another state.

I had the bacon cheese senior burger and I was struggling to finish it. It was huge! Definitely the “best bang for your buck” type of burger. The bun brought the whole burger together but I think the burger patty alone was very flavorful and well prepped. 10/10 recommend.

If you are looking for fancy sit down hamburger joint, this ain’t it. It is mostly take out, but three of us stopped by for lunch. They only have two or three small tables, but they were not in use when we stopped. The menu is small, which makes ordering easy. Each of us ordered a different burger type. A little slow compared to the big chain burger joints, but we all agreed the wait was worth it. Each of us rated our burger choice the best. All agreed if we come through this way again, Shorts’ will be our place to stop for lunch.

The Junior is definitely a sharable burger! The onion rings were cooked to crispy perfection & the French fries were seasoned just right. The burgers are seasoned just right for a great taste. The sauce is an original with good flavor. We will definitely be back!

Forget this being the best burger place in Huntsville, this may be the best burger I’ve ever had especially for the price. I got a sourdough bun and it was *chef’s kiss*. The meat, the bacon- they’re solid and thick. So bomb.

I visit Shorts Top every weekend. It is absolutely the best burger in Huntsville, and has spoiled my enjoyment of any other burger joint around.
The service is great, the sauce is unparalleled, and the prices are very reasonable.
The cook was recently featured in a local article, and the restaurant is currently working on an expansion in Corpus Christi. The reason for all the 5 star reviews and their growing success and popularity is obvious when you experience their quality meal for yourself.
