My first time visiting Zahra Spice last night! What an amazing restaurant! The owner MJAY greeted us the moment we walked in, the vibe was amazing, tunes were playing and the atmosphere was so pleasant for midweek!

The food was absolutely amazing, I’m a fussy eater and the chef even accommodated for me!

The Chicken Tikka starter was just perfect, perfectly sliced chunks cooked nice and proper!

Then onto the mains I had a nice Chicken Korma served with plain naan and let me tell you I was blown away!

Looking forward to my next trip here, will definitely be back in the very near future Big thanks once again would highly recommend!

In my experience, I prefer authentic Indian cuisine. On several occasions when visiting restaurants marketed as Indian, I have noticed that they are operated or run by Bangladeshi chefs or owners. While these establishments present themselves as Indian, they are in fact Bangladeshi restaurants, with the use of the term “Indian” seemingly intended to appeal to a wider customer base.

I believe it is important for restaurants to be transparent about the type of cuisine they offer, particularly as there are clear differences in flavour, preparation, and cultural practices. For example, many people do not consume beef, and this is an important consideration for customers like myself. I have encountered restaurants described as Indian that serve beef or include it on their menu—something I would have avoided had this been clearly disclosed.

On some occasions, I have also found that beef appears to be mixed into dishes sold as lamb, which significantly alters the taste and quality of the food. People can tell when meat is mixed, as the taste and texture of lamb are distinctly different from beef.

In modern Britain, transparent and accurate representation of cuisine and food practices is essential, as it allows customers to make informed choices. Personally, I find traditional Indian food better suited to my taste than its Bangladeshi counterpart.

I visited the restaurant last Wednesday with my sister and cousins (there were 4 adults and 2 young children) and I have to say that we were so impressed with our overall visit. The food was delicious and their peshwari naan is to die for (perfect amount of sweetness and so soft and fluffy). We shared some starters between us and the tandoori chicken / sheek kebabs were delicious and so tender with lots of flavour.

The service was excellent, and despite being very busy (surprising for a mid-week visit), the staff were so attentive and catered to our every need. There was a large group in at the time (approximately 12-15 people) and would have expected to have a longer wait time, but thankfully it didn’t have an impact on our table, as we didn’t have to wait around for our food to arrive, which can happen when it’s very busy, and everything came out freshly cooked and piping hot.

The location is great and is only a short walk (takes about a minute or two) from Tipton train station, which is ideal, as there are regular direct trains to Birmingham New Street and Wolverhampton stations.

The food, atmosphere, and service is excellent and I would highly recommend. We will be visiting here again very soon.

It’s been a long time since we were last here and we had good time. On another day I think it would have been even better.
I can’t say that the starters were the best but given the size of the main courses I wouldn’t be ordering any on my next visit.
The mains were very good but I did have to ask for a couple of chillies to add to my rather tame tawa, however the wife loved her balti. Special praise for our three sides of chunky chips, garlic sag fried rice and a garlic & coriander nan. All were excellent in fact the best I have had in a long time. Service was a bit slow and the room could have been warmer but all was forgiven when we had the bill, it was great value for the money. Of course being unlicensed does help although some may think it was licensed according to the sign.

Update, a week later we visited again and I am pleased to say that we experienced none of the negative elements of our first visit.

Update, and now it’s gone and changed its name to Zahra Spice. I am not sure why as all else is the same. Well worth a look.
