Reviews
Cheese curds hit the spot!
Bathrooms are beautiful.
Free parking right across but nearby all around when we went.
Updating my review to include a tasty mouth watering steak… highly recommend.
Staff is friendly and they provide guidance when the meal decision gets tricky!
The service was great — friendly and welcoming — but not very attentive to allergies, which is something to keep in mind if you have any dietary restrictions.
The atmosphere is relaxed and modern, perfect for a casual lunch or dinner. The only miss for me was the mule, which was just average compared to how good the food was.
Still, Red Cow Wayzata is absolutely worth a visit if you’re craving a great burger and a chill dining vibe by the lake.
I had one of the most blatantly racist and unprofessional dining experiences I’ve ever had — anywhere. And I’ve dined globally at luxury restaurants, resorts, and Michelin-level establishments. What happened at Red Cow Wayzata was unacceptable, embarrassing, and extremely telling.
My friend and I came for their Christmas pop-up. The initial greeting was friendly, and the manager/owner-type person gave recommendations. That’s the last normal moment we had.
When I ordered the Mary Berry Marg, the server told me I had to hand over my ID because the drink came in a “special” glass and they’ve had “issues with customers stealing and breaking them.”
Let me repeat that:
They accused customers of “breaking or stealing” their glassware, and used that as justification for taking my ID.
I asked what kind of glass we were talking about — something high-end? Baccarat? Waterford? Riedel? Some designer crystal?
Nope.
My drink arrived 25 minutes after our food, served in the cheapest-looking $5 highball glass you could find at Target, Walmart, or Goodwill. Not themed. Not premium. Not remotely valuable.
So why was I the only one asked for ID?
The answer became painfully obvious.
The white couple at the table directly next to us ordered the exact same drink from the same server.
They were NOT asked for their ID. Not questioned. Not warned. Nothing.
When I asked them directly, the man said, “Why would they take your ID for a drink?”
Exactly.
When the manager realized everyone at both tables understood what had just happened — that I was being singled out as the only Black patron in the room — he panicked. He rushed over, snatched the man’s ID (only after I pointed it out), and tried to pretend the server “forgot” to take theirs too. The man’s wife even said she ordered off the same holiday menu and was never asked for ID either.
There were over 100 white patrons in the restaurant. I did not see a SINGLE other table handing over IDs for their drinks. Not one.
So let’s call it what it was:
I was racially profiled.
I was treated as a theft or damage risk because I am Black.
And they tried to cover it up once they were caught.
My friend lost her appetite. I lost mine. I refused the to-go boxes, paid the $113 bill, and left. Not because of the cheap glass — but because of the clear racism behind their “policy.”
The manager’s justification?
That they “lost $7,000 in glassware last year.”
So instead of fixing their operations, training staff, or using glassware that isn’t treated like crown jewels, they decided to make certain people — me — feel like criminals over a $12 cocktail.
Why would ANYONE want to dine at a place that openly admits their customers “steal and break” glassware, and then selectively targets the only Black woman in the room to “prevent loss”?
The food was subpar, but honestly the racism overshadowed everything else. What happened was humiliating, obvious, and witnessed by two separate tables. Everyone felt uncomfortable — and everyone knew exactly why I, and only I, was singled out.
If you are a person of color, or simply someone who doesn’t support discriminatory business practices, do not patronize this restaurant.
Minnesota already has a well-documented problem with subtle and not-so-subtle racism — this experience was the perfect example of both.
Red Cow Wayzata should be ashamed
We know the burgers are good, but we got floored by their brunch offerings. Plus, their servers on a Sunday morning were beyond knocking it out of the park! The food was absolutely amazing, and we got to try some fun non-standard menu offerings like Baja Chilaquiles and Pastrami Hash. Highly recommend both – especially the hash!
Biggest winner of the morning was my waffle bite that was on top of my brunch Manhattan! So crispy, so smoked, so delicious!
Side note and extra kudos to our server: I watched our server take the brunt of it from another table where the customer was at fault for spilling their own drink (1st drink so it wasn’t like customer was inebriated) and the server just kindly apologized and continued on. It was true class while the customer seemed to hold a grudge. On the other hand, our server just brushed it off and continued to operate as the bigger person.
Foods ive tried were the 60/40 Burger, Cheerz curds with there amazing Cherry dipping sauce, Tuna app tray.
Only thing I noticed at this location i hope to improve is the Oura of a small portion of staff and others Eateing here. The Oura is like alot of self importance or beening snooty.
Positives about this restaurant was the clean Men’s bathroom and restaurant. I judge a buisness by how clean the bathrooms are to watching flow of things and staff performances.
We were thrilled the duty manager stopped by to check on our experience and ensure us a great experience and others.
