Reviews
It’s ironic the summary for the reviews state staff not so attentive. I walked in and there was two people seated. I sat for a few moments and noticed no acknowledgment. Then I saw another lady sit down and a waitress immediately went over to her. I the saw a waiter walk pass me three times, he held great conversation with some regulars and even if I’m not in either section a quick “mam have you been helped”. I waited and finally a waiter by the name of Riley C came out and provided excellent service. Before leaving he let me know he was leaving so I could pay and tip him generously. Riley obviously left and still no one even came to collect dishes and say is there anything you need. Although I haven’t been in the restaurant businesses for quite some time, I value great services because when I waitressed I wanted to treat people the exact same way I desired to be treated! Servers make a difference! Thank you again Riley.
My main reason for posting today is because of my awesome experience this past Sunday. I never travel on the holidays because I hate the line at security and this time it was extremely long. Because they only had two security machines open (out of 10, thanks to Tampa airport not planning ahead) we were in the security line for almost an hour. The longest I have ever waited in that line is about 20 minutes and that was during a holiday so we were very surprised. This meant that not only could we probably not do our “end of vacation cocktail or beer” at RumFish, but we could not enjoy one of their delicious appetizers. Since the restaurant was right near our gate, did not look too busy, and we still had a good 30 minutes before boarding started, we took a chance and decided to stop in at one of their high top tables and have a cocktail. Since we are from Denver and we have been to really awesome happy hour places and really poorly serviced happy hour places, our standards are usually somewhere in the middle, but we were blown away with the service we received on Sunday. Our server’s name was Ellie (I hope I got that right) and not only was she very understanding to our situation, but she was fast, friendly, and efficient. It also helps that the bartender made our Manhattans perfectly and that is a drink that is easily messed up unfortunately. I just wanted to give a shout out to Ellie and the bartender for giving us a wonderful last experience on our Florida vacation. I imagine it’s not easy to work in an airport. I don’t even like going to airports when I’m heading to see my I imagine it’s not easy to work in an airport. I have worked at many restaurants, but never in an airport so I bet it can be very stressful because of the clientele.
Thank you to the RumFish staff for making our day much better!
Her knowledge of the menu was impressive—she gave great recommendations that turned out to be spot-on. Whether it was the perfectly cooked seafood or the creative cocktails, she made sure everything came out just right. What really stood out, though, was her attentiveness. She checked in at the perfect times, never felt intrusive, and somehow anticipated what we needed before we even asked.
Tatum struck that rare balance of being professional, personable, and genuinely enthusiastic about what she does. You can tell she takes pride in her work, and it elevated the entire dining experience.
If you’re heading to RumFish Grill, ask for Tatum—you won’t be disappointed!
(Hint: we was here for our anniversary)
It wasn’t that expensive either for an airport restaurant. I didn’t pay more than $35 for the taco dish and a 20oz beer.
I look forward to trying this again the next time I’m at the airport or wherever I may find them.
The jerk grouper sandwich though; 2* all day long due to zero flavor/seasoning and the bottom bun being wet and about 4mm thick.
I cut it in half and tried to pick it up, but it just dumped all over my plate making this a jerk grouper salad.
Not the best meal I’ve had at TPA, so I will not be making that mistake again.
Ordered the honey habanero wings and sweet potato fries. They both were excellent! I also eyeballed quite a bit of other people’s order while sitting at the bar, and I will say ALL the food looked amazing! Fish tacos, blackened fish, Thai slaw……. the burger. There’s something for everyone.
Oh, and if this helps, it’s located right next to a bathroom.
