I actually enjoyed my experience here. I didn’t get the buffet. I ordered my chicken from the counter and they cooked it fresh. It was perfectly cooked and very moist and juicy. The place was clean. The staff were friendly. I really enjoyed the funny signs in the restroom. I would definitely return here again.

My family and I recently stumbled upon this hidden gem while traveling to the Houston area. Being from the DFW area we have plenty of fried chicken options. We wanted a place sit down and have some fried chicken for dinner but something quick and fast with lots of options. What better way to satisfy our appetite with a fried chicken buffet. After reading some of the past reviews, I was hesitant but learned that it was under new management. Photos are everything to me . So looking at before and after pictures, I could tell that this new owner gave this place a new vibe and a much needed face lift. Let me tell you this place did not disappoint. Dara, the new owner brought us fresh rolls right out the oven and chicken right out the fryer. YUMMY!! Unlike other fast food buffet places, Dara is definitely striving for freshness and quality in his food. The dinner rolls I learned are made in house and then right into the oven. It tasted semi-sweet, buttery and all so fluffy. Never frozen and rebaked. The fried chicken was crispy and juicey. I could tell that Dara is very personable and passionate in trying to rebuild this business that was established in 1972. So if you live in the North Houston/Humble area or just passing through , please check Hartz Chicken on 210 First st it’s not like the others .

Customer service is very poor . There is sign that says cash are cash prices but when I paid they charged me like I paid with card. The food is good but it doesn’t make sense to have a sign and don’t honor it. Then manager tells me to take it or leave it. Will not be back

Normally this is my go to location for chicken however today was my last time ever going here and I advise anyone else to stay clear of this location as well. I ordered an eight piece family meal with beans and rice as a side. They gave me a full cup of uncooked rice and less than a teaspoon of beans on top. To make matters worse I got home and my family meal did not have my rolls in it. The guy that is taking orders seems to have an issue if you don’t add an extra tip to the total and chicken use to be fresh and cooked to order however it is not anymore and I would NEVER go to this location again and if anyone wants to ensure you are getting fresh chicken for the price with excellent sides and not omitted rolls stay clear of this place. Before this guy started taking orders the place was great but if you don’t tip him expect poor quality food from him. Don’t go to this place and now I understand how the line use to be long to now it’s empty. There are better places with excellent customer service that don’t require you to add a tip to a drive thru chicken place. He is a con artist and I need to send the health department to this location due to the uncooked food they are serving customers.

The new owners have been here since January 2025 and let me tell you, this place is much different than the previous posts have stated. The food was crazy delicious, the workers were so pleasant and the restaurant was very clean! The buffet style chicken setting was really nice! It was southern style food, home cookin’ good vibes. If you haven’t been here in a while, I would reconsider with the new owners moving in!
I especially loved how the chicken was super crunchy – noting is worse than mushy fried chicken. TMy favorite sides were the cole slaw, smoked beans and mashed potatoes. The rolls are made fresh all day and i really enjoyed how fluffy and soft they are!
10/10, when I come to Houston I will be swinging by here every time for some good southern style food that tastes like it came right from my grandma’s kitchen.

They were super busy, the food was not up to par, but it was tasty. I approached the manager and told him that i felt that the food could have been a better quality for being the dinner rush. They quickly gave me a refund but also stocked the steam table with fresh food. Their service is awesome and their quickness to fix the situation was very fast. I appreciate this and will be returning because they were all very friendly and amazing.
