I grew up on the west coast and my grandparents occasionally took me to authentic seafood spots. I remember distinctly not liking the fish because they were obviously freshly caught and didn’t suit my chubby, spoiled appetite that was more accustomed to a Filet-o-Fish or Costco pre-cooked and breaded fish sticks.
This Golden Fish Grill burrito reminded me of those fresh, coastal seafood cuisines. Luckily I’ve mentally matured a year or two since the early 2000’s, so I actually had a few bites. I thought it was so yummy that I will come back and try the shrimp burrito/tacos next time, since I do really like shrimp.
The ambience is really cool here too – probably because it’s simple, outdoors, and pretty safe. Keep an eye on the younger kids, but they can still play around a bit – there’s a cornhole set up, and the gravel area is fun for stretching the legs.
The biggest downside of food trucks is the heavily-inflated and non-refillable drink options. Be prepared to pay a markup for your Jarritos, or try an Agua Fresca – otherwise to save a bit of cash you may consider BYOB and have yourself some fresh fish outside in the fresh air!
We just went to Mexico two weeks ago and these were better than what I got in Cabo!
I got the golden salad with the Cajun swordfish. I usually avoid swordfish because it’s almost always dry, but it was what that gal taking orders suggested, so I gave it a go. This was literally the best swordfish I’ve ever had — and it was from a food truck in Utah. The salad doesn’t normally come with avocado, but I suggest you add it. It was a very good addition. The salad was a bed of lettuce and cabbage with cucumber slices, tomato slices, carrot ribbons and the added avocado. On the side was a container of dressing and a lemon wedge. All the ingredients were good, but it doesn’t really come across as a composed salad.
My wife got the shrimp burrito, and that was a composed dish. It was seriously excellent. (If you’re on the fence between a salad and a burrito, get the burrito.)
We’re looking forward to returning here frequently.
