We really wanted to like this place. As English expats, we were regulars at the previous Tilly’s location in Saks and had high hopes for this new venue.

Unfortunately, it didn’t deliver. We went for afternoon tea, but the experience lacked the authenticity and charm you’d expect. The poor server clearly hadn’t been trained on the products — she didn’t know the teas, nor how they’re traditionally served with milk and sugar. We felt bad for her.

The menu promised Ribena (a classic British berry drink), but they didn’t have any. It took 40 minutes from the time we arrived to actually get served. The sandwiches were average at best, not cut properly — if you’re going to offer a British afternoon tea, the details matter.

The cakes seemed like they were store-bought rather than homemade (though I can’t confirm), and the scone was orange-flavoured, which wasn’t mentioned. My wife and daughter shared a plate and we were charged $12 extra just for one additional scone — felt excessive.

There was no atmosphere at all in the venue, which made the whole thing feel flat. For a $200 bill for a family of five, we expected a lot more.

Expensive, slow, and missing the mark on what a true British tea experience should be. Disappointing

We visited Tilly’s Tea Room today, and overall we would give it a 4/5. Per a previous review, it stated issues with parking. There is a parking garage connected directly to Tilly’s and it was a short 3-4 minute walk without needing to cross the usually-busy 116th street.

We chose the English breakfast tea and loved it! The reviews regarding the packaged honey were in fact true. I wish it was presented in some sort of a dish with a honey stirrer just to add a little bit of a *fancier* vibe. Starting from the bottom of our tower to the top:
1. Egg salad sandwiches- 5/5 DELISH!!
2. Chicken salad sandwiches- 5/5 (this was our fave)
3. Cucumber and cream cheese sandwiches- 2/5. I wish there was more cream cheese and less cucumber- also served on white bread. That could be a personal preference, but I couldn’t take more than one bite.
4. Scones, clotted cream, lemon curd- This was a star of our meal! The scone was dense yet moist and paired beautifully with that to die for clotted cream.
5. Desserts….. 1/5. This needs some WORK. This could just totally be a preference of desserts, but these were a miss. We tried each one at least once and didn’t want to finish any of them.

Overall it was a great experience and we will most likely be back! I wish there were just a couple upgrades to make it feel more luxurious (sugar cubes, honey with a stirrer, etc.). Thanks for a good time!

Tilley’s Tea Room has set the bar for a classic tea service for 20 years. Her new location is beautiful and convenient. This is a great place for a leisurely lunch and great conversation . Holly is a fabulous hostess and makes sure everything is perfect. It’s a great day for high tea!

Mediocre afternoon with friends, server misrepresented the menu items and then charged us for every single item separately. Food and coffee was cold and Costco bought at best. Paid over $100 for 4 tea, scones, 4 cups of veg broth soup! Please save your money and go somewhere else. Better yet , if you have some tea bags and sconce ,butter and jelly, you could do it home! Really disappointed

Tilly’s Tea Room is the number 1 place to get tea in all of America! They have endless flavors of tea! I recommend Share an Afternoon Tea with a Friend, it’s less expensive than Afternoon Tea, but it’s perfect for 2 people. You get a tea tower with sandwiches of your choice, mini desserts, and scones with whipped butter and daily jam. It’s great for a girl’s day out.

Tilly’s Tea Room is an absolute gem! The atmosphere is charming and elegant—perfect for a relaxing afternoon or a special occasion. The tea selection is incredible, with beautifully brewed options that pair perfectly with their freshly made scones, sandwiches, and pastries. The wine and dinner menu is delectable with so many options!!!

The staff are genuinely warm, attentive, and go above and beyond to make you feel welcome. Every detail—from the vintage decor to the delicate china—adds to the experience. Highly recommend for anyone who loves a proper afternoon tea done right or a glass of wine with a charcuterie board!!

We had had tea at Tilly’s when they were located in Saks and we were looking forward to trying it at the new location. The venue is sleek and contemporary, which may or may not appeal to others. We really liked the option of ordering the afternoon tea and sharing the tier for an additional charge of $12. They provided a pot of tea for each person and a scone. I also liked that they had the option of purchasing additional tea sandwiches. They offer egg salad can cucumber and then have some other options from which to choose including chicken salad, ham and cheese, tomato with cheese and pesto, and a salmon option. The toppings for the scones included lemon curd, a jam and clotted cream, all which were excellent. The scone was decent. The sweets included a delicious tart and a bread pudding, layered bar, and a filled chocolate. It was a good selection of teas and they were excellent. It would have been nice to have had a listing of the tease rather than have the server list them off. All in all, we had a wonderful afternoon of tea and goodies! Service was excellent. If you’re looking for a more traditional tea room this location will not fit the bill. However, the price point is excellent and I would definitely return again.

The space is more of a cocktail lounge vibe. It does not look like a proper tea room. The tea was not served very hot, the sandwiches were blah at best. But the scone was the worst–it was previously frozen and NOT baked through. The middle was almost raw dough. When asked the waitress said that they serve too many scones to bake them fresh daily. If a tea room can’t serve a well baked scone perhaps they should be offering something else. For $45 per person I expected a higher standard. I will probably not go back.

Charming atmosphere, but room for improvement.

The space was cute, though on the smaller side. Upon arrival, there was no host or signage, so we had to flag down a server to check in with our reservation—something that could be improved for a smoother experience.

Seating by the entrance was less than ideal due to a strong fish smell coming from Max & Tilly’s fish and chips shop next door as both restaurants share the vestibule. Also made us not want to ever try the fish there.

Afternoon tea is $45 per person, but the food did not meet expectations for that price tag. The egg salad sandwich was too heavy on mayonnaise, and the cucumber sandwich was made with pickles…an unexpected twist that was not a welcomed surprise. The tiny sweets were just ok. The scone was surprisingly served cold, another disappointment, as warm scones are typically a hallmark of English tea service.

On a positive note, we thoroughly enjoyed the passion fruit tea, . Refills are available upon request, as the teapot is quite small. And our waitress was very sweet and attentive.

Aesthetically, the afternoon tea experience could be elevated with more thoughtful touches—such as floral or patterned teacups and plates or a little sugar bowl—that add charm and make the occasion feel more special. With some refinement in food quality and presentation, I would be more inclined to return.

If you only want to know the quality of food and atmosphere I will start with that first. Tea was good and food was fair. We frequent tea shops often across the country and it wasn’t bad. Fair at best. Very limited tea options but tea was okay. Honey packets were a little tacky. For the price would’ve liked sugar cubes as well. Now to customer service…Treated our granddaughters 7&8 to princess tea for the first time. They were excited and dressed the part with princess dresses and all. We ordered two afternoon teas and a princess tea, an easy $150 bill! The manager a black woman wearing a hat with a bad wig initially refused to serve the children the decorated tea cups which we requested to commemorate their first real tea experience. My husband and I were fine with whatever cup they wanted to give us, we just wanted it to be special for the girls. The woman openly showed her annoyance at the request and told us no and sited that they were for private party’s! Not sure what is considered a private party considering there was no “private area” for guest, and half the restaraunt was empty! We talking two tea cups! We can appreciate the rules but the attitude was crazy! Never going back. Spend my good money elsewhere. Have to give a shout out to Holly who was amazing and made the experience what we wanted it to be for the girls despite the bad wig hat wearing woman being negative. Our waitress was also very very sweet! She was fairly new and kept her composure very well despite the back and forth about the cups. Overall, quaint nice spot, average tea over priced and overall nice team despite the bad wig having a bad day.
