My husband and I have been coming here since we started dating and I can confidently say that the food and service have remained consistent over the years. The location is tucked away from the everyday hustle and bustle. Prices are reasonably affordable for a romantic night or special meal for a couple or friend group.

From out of town, looking for a quick bite to eat. Came across Cafe Sol Azteca’s unique entrance and to our surprise and incredible atmosphere, delicious food and warm service! You know it’s a good spot when the salsa is amazing!! We will return again! I had the haddock with tomatillo and cilantro sauce. My husband had the steak tacos!!! Yum!

We made our southern kid jealous by having lunch here today. We’ve been coming here almost forever (yes that long!) Under new ownership the meals are the same, as always! See you in summer!!

This place is the best! It has been our go-to restaurant for Mexican food for a few decades. Love the mole sauce. Our group frequently order mole poblanos, enchiladas poblanos. My wife loves the tacos rancheros.

We always try to get Henri as our waiter. Very attentive and friendly!

The Newton location of Cafe Sol Azteca is charming, from the outdoor patio, to the tastefully decorated interior. The food is great! The salsa is incredible. My go to meal is the chile relleno (primarily with their tomato sauce). I think there can be two different green sauces, one I love, and one, not so much (I think one comes with a full order, and one if you get half green half red, if that makes sense). Others I dine with also often express how much they love their meals there.

My family always came to Sol Azteca in Boston and in Newton when I was growing up. When I had children, I brought them here as well. Even after 40 years, I still come here with my grown children when they are in town. The service has always been friendly and professional, the menu has continued to offer a variety across meat, fish, poultry, and includes vegetarian options. The beverages continue to be favorites including the best sangria in the area and specialty cocktails. Dining here for casual or special occasions is a tradition for our family, and we highly recommend Sol Azteca which remains family-run and has survived the test of time. They now have entertainment almost each evening of the week. So come and enjoy!

Cafe Sol Azteca has been our #1 mexican restaurant since it opened, and indeed one of our #1 restaurants across all types. We particularly love the classics, prepared and served so well here: enchiladas rojas and verdes, carnitas, we especially are keen on the mixed grill platter with puerco en adobo, cilantro and tomatillo shrimp and grilled chicken. The sangria is the cat’s meow. Love the outside patio, even in cold weather (they have heaters!).

We have been going to Sol Azteca in Newton for something like thirty-plus years. You don’t do that if it’s not good. Delicious food, served by a friendly staff. Great place. The courtyard in fair weather is wonderful.

Cafe Sol Azteca has, hands down, the best Mexican food I’ve ever eaten. Not “best in town,” not “best this month”—I mean best ever. After the first bite, I sat there rethinking every quesadilla I’ve ever had like my whole culinary history was a lie.

The flavors are unreal in a totally grounded, real-world way. Every dish tastes like someone poured actual care, time, and pride into it. The quesadillas? Stop-you-mid-sentence good. The enchiladas? Comforting on a deep emotional level. The guacamole? I would absolutely defend it in a duel.

The atmosphere is warm and inviting, the staff treats you like family, and the portions make it clear that Cafe Sol Azteca wants you to leave happy and full. The chips keep coming in a way that feels almost competitive, and I respect that.

Service was great—friendly, attentive, and just the right pace. Honestly, if the food were any better, I’d be tempted to ask if I could rent a booth long-term.

If you want Mexican food that sets a new personal standard, come here. Bring an appetite, bring stretchy pants, and prepare to compare every future quesadilla to the ones you had here.

Please open a franchise and come to Philly!

I came in and ordered take out . I waited in the nice friendly ambiance for about 15 minutes . I ordered the steak quesadilla, it was good . The portion was a good size and quality for the price . The staff were friendly and welcoming . I will definitely sit for dinner next time . I used the bathrooms they were clean . They have street meter parking and it’s located in front of the train station , Greenline called “ Newton center “.
