Skipped breakfast so I was halfway looking for a brunchy option when I stumbled into El Tikal. With a quality lunch special section, plus your everyday Mexican favorites and a great variety of meat, seafood and veggie dishes, I had a hard time deciding. I’m usually a combo order kind of guy, but I had to throw together my own little lunch variety pack, add Santa Fe (breakfast) burrito.

Plantains always hit for me, but these were extra caramelized and gooey so I had to portion them out between the beginning and end of the meal. The mole sauce on the chili relleno was smokey and not as spicy, but really well-balanced. The tamale with red sauce seemed less flavorful than the other dishes, but I’m no tamale expert and I’ve been hanging out with a lot of Italians recently.

The Santa Fe burrito was out of this world: the eggs, nice and crumbly with tons of seasoning and flavor, the cheese-covered chorizo oozing into each bite. I need this again, and I’m sure there’s so many other incredible things on the menu to explore, but this is truly a hearty and unique item worth coming back for.

Coming in from out of town, we were told this was a great place.
We were seated promptly but the server came over about 10-15 min later apologizing. We ordered 2 margaritas … took forever to get. Flowers put in drink 1/2 dead. No small dishes to eat nachos and dip in. Made a mess on table.
Not good.
Food was ok. Very hot in temperature which was good.
Took forever to get the check.
No personality or professionalism there. My husband said service one of the worst ever.
We were very disappointed.

El Tikal is a must-try!

I can’t say enough good things about El Tikal! The food is amazing — everything tastes super fresh and full of flavor. The drinks WOW!!! super flavorful and the tacos were perfectly seasoned, the guacamole was spot on, and the portions were just right. You can really tell they put love into every dish.

The vibe inside is warm and inviting, with a calm atmosphere that makes you want to stay and hang out. The staff is super friendly too — they make you feel right at home from the moment you walk in.

Honestly, this might be my new favorite Mexican spot. If you haven’t tried El Tikal yet, you’re seriously missing out!

Very nice establishment. I loved the tacos and my rice. The person who dined with me loved the lunch taco salad. Atmosphere is very nice. Great service. If I could give six stars I would!

Brought a hockey team in for lunch after a game at the Toyota complex on coal street after recommendation from a local friend. The staff was friendly, accommodating, and attentive to our every need. They sat us in a semi private area where our 12 year old boys could have a little freedom, were able to give each family separate checks (7 of them) and made sure that we were good throughout the meal. The food came out quickly and everyone raved about the quality and ample portion size. Tremendous experience overall and made the 2 hour drive back to Philly easy w full bellies:). Snider hockey 12A thanks the entire staff at El Tikal!

Absolutely disgusting!!!! My friend and I came in after the gym and everything seemed fine at first—our appetizer was decent. But right after our entrées came out, we saw a massive cockroach. That was it. We left all the food on the table and walked out. This is a serious health concern and totally unacceptable. I will not be returning PERIOD.

The food was so so. It took almost 20 minutes for them to take my order and there were only 5 tables, counting mine. The rice was good even if the portion couldn’t fill a 1 year old

PHENOMENAL Experience!
We tried this restaurant for the first time after a show at the arena, and it exceeded our expectations! From the moment we walked in, we were seated immediately and welcomed with complimentary chips, salsa, and a unique white cream sauce that was absolutely delicious. The service was quick, and the quality of the food was outstanding. Everyone in our group cleared their plates, which is a testament to how good everything was! The chicken and spinach enchiladas were particularly memorable—simply out of this world. To top it all off, the prices were very reasonable. We will definitely be back for more!

First time trying this place, I don’t live in Wilkes-Barre. I promise you this, every time I visit Wilkes-Barre, I will eat here; it will be our destination. Food was absolutely fantastic. It is the first Mexican Restaurant I have been to that I even enjoyed the microwaved leftovers the next day.

We came with a part of 9 an hour before closing. We were still eating 30 minutes after closing and they were just as polite and welcoming as when we walked in even though you can tell they were exhausted.

Excellent value for the quality and amount of food.

I come here usually for the birria tacos. And normally they are good. But this visit my service was terrible. There’s was barely any meat in the tacos. Waiter took for ever to bring me a high chair. Barely checked on me. I had to wave her down each time I needed something. And there was a gnat in my drink. Idk what’s going on but I probably won’t be back for awhile. Smh.
